High temperature initiation and propagation of cracks in 12%Cr-steel turbine disks

S. Foletti, A. Lo Conte, S. Salgarollo, F. Bassi, A. Riva

This work aims to study the crack propagation in 12%Cr steel for turbine disks. Creep Crack Growth (CCG) tests on CT specimens have been performed to define the proper fracture mechanics which describes the initiation of the crack…

On the applicability of Miner’s rule for multiaxial fatigue life calculations under non-proportional load histories

Marco Antonio Meggiolaro, Jaime Tupiassú Pinho de Castro, Samuel Elias Ferreira, Hao Wu

Fatigue design routines and computer codes must use some damage accumulation rule to deal with variable amplitude loadings (VAL), usually Palmgren-Miner (or Miner’s) linear rule for lack of a clearly better option. Nevertheless, fatigue…

Notched multiaxial fatigue of Al7050-T7451: on the need for an equivalent process zone size

M.V.C Sá, J.L.A Ferreira, C.R.M da Silva, J.A. Araújo

The aim of this work is to investigate stress gradient effects on the fatigue life estimation of notched Al 7050-T7451 specimens under combined torsion and push-pull loading conditions. Initially, simple push-pull and torsion fatigue tests…

Influence of the crack propagation rate in the obtaining opening and closing stress intensity factor by finite element method

Luiz Carlos H. Ricardo, Carlos Alexandre J. Miranda

Crack propagation simulation began with the development of the finite element method; the analyses were conducted to obtain a basic understanding of the crack growth. Today structural and materials engineers develop structures and…

Revisiting classical concepts of Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics - Part II: Stretching finite strips weakened by single edge parabolically-shaped notches

Christos F. Markides, Stavros K Kourkoulis

This is the second part of a short three-paper series, aiming to revisit some classical concepts of Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics. Being the intermediate step of the analysis between infinite domains (discussed in Part-I) and finite…

Investigation of crack propagation in single optical fiber composite with thermal influence by finite element method

Ahanchian Mohammad, Arzumanyan Hovhannes, Verlinski Sergey

Two parallel comparative ‘Conventional Method and Computer Simulation using ANSYS software’ for prediction of crack growth and its behavior in optical fiber are studied and presented in this work. Corresponding finite element analysis was…
