Aim of the present work was the instrumentation of a maxi scooter for the field collection of service loads acting on the scooter main components such as frame, fork, handlebar, rear frame and suspension. Service loads were collected on an…
Multiaxial fatigue damage calculations under non-proportional variable amplitude loadings still remains a quite challenging task in practical applications, in part because most fatigue models require cycle identification and counting to…
Fatigue design is of vital importance to avoid fatigue small crack growth in engineering structures. This study shows that the critical fatigue design stress can be defined below the usual endurance limit, considered in rules and codes.…
This article presents a basic research approach for probabilistic assessment of vehicle structure fatigue endurance under multiaxial loading. One representative welded structural detail of the bottom joint plate of an articulated bus was…
The quickly identify of fatigue limit of a mechanical component with good approximation is currently a significant practical problem not yet resolved in a satisfactory way. Generally, for a mechanical component, the fatigue strength…
Current research paper deals with reinforced concrete (R.C.) beams numerical modeling and suggested strengthening procedure if it is required to create an opening within their shear zones. Strengthening is assumed to be achieved during…
Structural components made of fibre-reinforced materials are frequently used in engineering applications. Fibre-reinforced composites are multiphase materials, and complex mechanical phenomena take place at limit conditions but also during…
In the total hip prosthesis, according to different positions of the patient, there are a variety of loads acting on femoral head which generate stress concentration in the cement called polymethylmethacrylat (PMMA) and consequently in the…
Cracks at notches deserve special consideration in the design of steam turbine components. This work is addressed to investigate the crack initiation behavior a 10%Cr rotor steel with the help of notched specimens under service-type…
This paper considers an important topic, and one that is often poorly understood or misinterpreted, but which is a determining factor in many aspects of the service performance of metals (and other materials). Engineering components and…
Most mechanical components experience multi-axial cyclic loading conditions during service. Experimental analysis of fatigue cracks under such conditions is not easy and most works tend to focus more on the simpler but less realistic case…
Fatigue lifetime assessment is essential in the design of structures. Under-estimated predictions may result in unnecessary in service inspections. Conversely, over-estimated predictions may have serious consequences on the integrity of…
This work raises some new questions about the validity of blindly assuming that Elber’s effective stress intensity factor is the actual fatigue crack driving force, and that as so it can be used to explain all load sequence effects on…
Nowadays most industrial realities undergo a strong push to improve cost-effectiveness, productivity and quality of manufactured products. In particular we focussed our attention in the area of design of plastic structural components…
The settlement difference in the transition section of road and bridge may lead to traffic accidents, which has many negative effects. Back filling of foam concrete behind abutment is a good method of treatment. In this study, a kind of…
The aim of this work is the analysis of the contact area in a knee prosthesis using two different approaches. In particular, the interface between the femoral component and the polyethylene insert has been studied both numerically and…
The present paper addresses experimentally the high temperature fatigue of 40CrMoV13.9 steel and the effect of surface roughness on fatigue strength and crack initiation. The 40CrMoV13.9 steel is widely used in different engineering high…
The Hercílio Luz suspension bridge, built in 1926, has been out of service since 1991 due to high corrosion levels and structural element impairment. A complete rehabilitation project was developed which included the replacement of the…
The presence of a geometric discontinuity such as a crack or a notch can cause the failure of a structure during its use. Under various mechanical or thermal stresses, a high concentration of stresses can take place at the level of these…
At intermediate service temperatures hot mix asphalt (HMA) concretely are subjected to different loading rates due to movement of vehicles which can significantly affect their mechanical characteristics and final service load. Hence, in…
This research examines the performance of reinforced lightweight concrete beams subjected to several degrees of damage (50%, 60%, 70%, and 100%). It can use a sheet made of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) to reinforce. The Full…
Concrete was considered to be very durable material for a long time. However many constructions have shown degradations during their service life. To ensure safety, stability and serviceability of civil engineering structures…
Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) materials used for lightweight aircraft structures are susceptible to low velocity accidental impacts during manufacture and while in service. In this study the CFRP laminates subjected to low…
The structures in service are subjected to loads whose amplitude varies most often over time. These differences in loading cycle levels will have a direct impact on the propagation of cracks that can lead to accelerations or slowdowns in…
Due to their severe operating conditions, many industrial components are subjected to complex combinations of cyclic mechanical stresses and thermal pressures. These combinations are responsible for the initiation and propagation of…
