The leak area of circumferential through-thickness crack in pipe under bending depends on the position of the crack with respect to the bending plane. In leak-before-break (LBB) analysis, the assumption that the crack is symmetrically…
The main aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of a composite repair system in severely corroded circumferential welds in super duplex stainless steel pipes as a preventive measure against the premature corrosion damage at the…
This study presents a numerical prediction of the ductile damage for axial cracks in pipe subjected to internal pressure. The three dimensional finite element methods used to evaluate the J-integral. The effect of the external radius (Rext…
The good management of drinking water begins with a supply network, with a low rate of leakage. Currently, the pipes used in the water transport system are mainly made of polymeric materials, such as HDPE. The corrosion degradation of this…
The paper presents the numerical analysis of failure pressure of wall loss defect metallic pipelines and validate it with experimental results. An optimization of composite thickness for repair of wall loss defect pipeline is also carried…
The extended finite element (XFEM) method has been used to simulate fatigue crack growth in casing pipe, made of API J55 steel by high-frequency welding, in order estimate its structural integrity and life. Based on the critical value of…
The paper presents a study of the application of Leak-Before- Break (LBB) concept in a relatively small-diameter high energy reactor coolant line, where it is proposed type AISI 316LN to be used as base material welded with type AISI 316L…
This study investigates the impact of aggregate and pipe cooling systems on concrete behaviour at a mesoscale level. Firstly, a Chemo-Thermo-Mechanical model is developed to investigate the initial stress state of early age hydration…
The main aim of this work is to predict the theoretical burst pressure of defective pipelines using different semi-empirical models and compare them with the results of the hydrostatic tests. A methodology was formulated with accounting…
Pipelines are considered as a major tool to transport hydrocarbons due to its important role in transporting fluids taking into account the operating conditions. Despite the importance of the elbow which considered as a critical part in…
There have been incidents recently where stress corrosion cracking (SCC) observed in the dissimilar metal weld (DMW) joints connecting the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) nozzle with the hot leg pipe. Due to the complex microstructure and…
This paper presents a study of the application of Leak-Before-Break (LBB) to nuclear piping using three different materials. Based on the fracture mechanics, the LBB concept considers that a leakage from a crack can be detected before it…
The purpose of this article is to present the stress intensity factors (SIF) solutions for semi-elliptic crack in pipelines under internal pressures, the stress intensity factors are calculated by the three-dimensional finite element…
The reduced state of stress triaxiality observed in shallow cracked components allows an increased capacity to resist crack propagation compared to that observed in deeply cracked specimens. This may be regarded as a higher fracture…
A methodology of experimental research on hydrogen embrittlement of pipe carbon steels due to the transportation of hydrogen or its mixture with natural gas by a long-term operated gas distribution network is presented. The importance of…
The company DRC (pipe repair Department) located within the SONATRACH Company of oil and gas in Algeria, which is responsible for the repair of pipelines for the transport of gas or crude petroleum, will rehabilitate old pipes that have…
In this paper, an additional criterion was introduced to evaluate the composite repair systems using the limit load analysis. The plastic collapse pressure of API 5L X65 PSL2 steel pressure vessel structure with crack defect is numerically…
The pipes, during their service, are subjected to accumulated loads such as internal pressure and that of the soil. The latter considerably accelerate their damage. In this work, the bending moment stress of API 5L X70 category steel…
Power plant piping system subjected to many cyclic loading conditions leads to fatigue loading and thereby crack initiation in the piping system. Demonstrating Leak-Before-Break (LBB) in the design stage itself plays an important role in…
This study presents a three dimensional finite element method analysis of semi-elliptical surface cracks in pipes under internal pressure load. In the elastic–plastic case, estimates of the J-integral are presented for various ratios…
