Chemical reactions between carbon steel, water and chemical species produce corrosion layers (scales) on the internal surface of pipelines transporting hydrocarbons. Scales act as a diffusion barrier and prevent the progress of corrosion…
There has been a trend recently to use specimen geometries for toughness measurement that are more representative of actual flaw geometries in service. A prominent example is the use of single-edge-notched tension specimens for assessment…
The purpose of this article is to present the stress intensity factors (SIF) solutions for semi-elliptic crack in pipelines under internal pressures, the stress intensity factors are calculated by the three-dimensional finite element…
Focusing on ferritic-pearlitic DCIs, these alloys are characterized by a microstructure that ranges from a fully ferritic to a completely pearlitic matrix, and they are widely used for many applications (e.g. wheels, gears, crankshafts in…
The paper presents the numerical analysis of failure pressure of wall loss defect metallic pipelines and validate it with experimental results. An optimization of composite thickness for repair of wall loss defect pipeline is also carried…
Nowadays, an increasing number of oil and gas transmission pipes are constructed with high-strength low alloy steels (HSLA); however, many of these pipelines suffer from different types of hydrogen damages, such as hydrogen-induced…
Pipelines are considered as a major tool to transport hydrocarbons due to its important role in transporting fluids taking into account the operating conditions. Despite the importance of the elbow which considered as a critical part in…
The main aim of this work is to predict the theoretical burst pressure of defective pipelines using different semi-empirical models and compare them with the results of the hydrostatic tests. A methodology was formulated with accounting…
In this study the finite element method is used to analyze the performances of bonded composite wrap repair of cracked steel pipelines. Parametric analysis was performed in order to highlight the effects of the geometrical properties on…
Paper presents the analytical solution of the stress-strain state for a dented pipeline, based on the method of equivalent loads. First off all solution for a harmonic imperfection is found, then using Fourier series expansion a…
This work is based on the application of probabilistic fracture mechanics (MRP) models to predict the reliability of pressure pipelines in nuclear power reactors. The simulation of cracking of stainless steel piping under the conditions of…
There is a need for efficient techniques that could identify damages in structures such as in bridges, pipelines, buildings, dams, among others. In order to carry out continuous monitoring of structures, this paper proposes a new…
The company DRC (pipe repair Department) located within the SONATRACH Company of oil and gas in Algeria, which is responsible for the repair of pipelines for the transport of gas or crude petroleum, will rehabilitate old pipes that have…
Initiation and propagation of ductile fractures are a major consideration during the design of high-pressure pipelines. Consequences of a pipeline failure can be catastrophic thus structural integrity must be ensured over several decades.…
