Deformation and fatigue behaviors of carburized automotive gear steel and predictions

Bonglae Jo, Yongbo Shim, Shahriar Sharifimehr, Ali Fatemi

The fatigue behavior of carburized components such as automotive transmission gears is very complex due to hardness and microstructure difference, residual stresses and multi-axial stress states developed between the case and the core. In…

Investigation of very high cycle fatigue by thermographyc method

V. Crupi, G. Epasto, E. Guglielmino, G. Risitano

Nowadays, many components and structures are subjected to fatigue loading with a number of cycles higher than 107. In this scientific work, the behaviour of two kinds of tool steel was investigated in very high cycle fatigue regime. The…

Multiaxial fatigue assessment of crankshafts by local stress and critical plane approach

M. Leitner, F. Grun, Z. Tuncali, R. Steiner, W. Chen

For multiaxially-loaded parts several stress-based fatigue assessment concepts are applicable mostly taking uniaxial test results as basis. These approaches work well in case of proportional loading states, but on contrary, for…

Determining the endurance limit of AISI 4340 steels in terms of different statistical approaches

Salim Çalışkan, Rıza Gürbüz

In engineering applications, fatigue phenomenon is a key issue and needs to be analyzed in the beginning of design phase in case of any component exposed to alternating loading on operation otherwise catastrophic fatigue failure may cause.…

Kinetics of fatigue crack growth and crack paths in the old puddled steel after 100-years operating time

G. Lesiuk, M. Szata

The goal of the authors’ investigations was determination of the fatigue crack growth in fragments of steel structures (of the puddled steel) and its cyclic behavior. Tested steel elements coming from the turn of the 19th and 20th were…

Effect of the intermediate quenching on fracture toughness of ferrite-martensite dual phase steels

B Sunil, S. Rajanna

The main aim of the research work is to examine the fracture toughness of the dual phase steels prepared using the intermediate quenching method. The ferrite-martensite dual phase (DP) steel is produced using low carbon micro alloyed steel…
