Crack initiation and propagation have been investigated on the polymeric material ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), under ultrasonic fatigue testing. Three controlled actions were implemented in order to carry out fatigue tests at…
The present paper addresses experimentally the high temperature fatigue of 40CrMoV13.9 steel and the effect of surface roughness on fatigue strength and crack initiation. The 40CrMoV13.9 steel is widely used in different engineering high…
This paper discusses the relationship between the stress response and the microstructure under tension-torsion multiaxial proportional and nonproportional loadings. Firstly, this paper discusses the material dependency of additional…
Nowadays, many components and structures are subjected to fatigue loading with a number of cycles higher than 107. In this scientific work, the behaviour of two kinds of tool steel was investigated in very high cycle fatigue regime. The…
In recent years, mechanical property of many SMA has improved in order to introduce these alloys in specific field of industry. Main examples of these alloys are the NiTi, Cu-Zn-Al and Cu-Al-Ni which are used in many fields of engineering…
Shape memory property characterizes the behavior of many Ti based and Cu based alloys (SMAs). In Cu-Zn-Al SMAs, the original shape recovering is due to a bcc phase that is stable at high temperature. After an appropriate cooling process…
The development of additive technologies for manufacturing safety‑critical components operating under vibration must be accompanied by a careful analysis of the material’s resistance to high‑cycle fatigue (HCF). This paper presents a…
Ultrasonic fatigue tests were carried out on stainless steel AISI 316 and 304, under two modalities: at room temperature and in immersion (water for 316 and antifreeze for 304 steels); all tests were carried out with a loading ratio R=-1.…
This paper deals with the fatigue crack propagation behavior of rolled AZ31B magnesium alloy (grain size: approximately 40 ?m). Fatigue crack propagation tests were performed on single edge notched tension specimens at a stress ratio of R…
The quickly identify of fatigue limit of a mechanical component with good approximation is currently a significant practical problem not yet resolved in a satisfactory way. Generally, for a mechanical component, the fatigue strength…
Aeroengine manufacturers have to demonstrate that critical components such as turbine disks, made of DA Inconel 718, meet the certification requirements in term of fatigue crack growth. In order to be more representative of the in service…
SS 316Ti is widely used in bellows industry and is a good candidate material for high temperature bellows in sodium cooled fast reactor (SFR) systems. Typical operating temperature experienced by SFR systems is around 823K. Design of…
This study discusses fatigue properties of low carbon steel, type SS400 steel, under non-proportional loading. Multiaxial fatigue tests under proportional and non-proportional loading conditions with various stress amplitudes were carried…
In this work, the effect of superimposing of isothermal low cycle fatigue loading to the thermomechanical fatigue loading on the crack propagation behavior of the naturally initiated short crack in Low-carbon nitrogen-controlled 316…
Fatigue surface crack growth is studied through experiments and computations for aluminum alloys D16T and B95AT (analogue of 2024 and 7075 aluminum). Subjects for studies are cylindrical hollow specimens with external semi-elliptical…
Blades of combustion turbines are extremely loaded turbojet elements, which transmit operative energy onto a rotor. Experiences of many years indicate, that cracks initiation and propagation in the blades during the operation time can…
This study reports an experimental investigation of the fatigue and fracture resistance of R350HT, a heat-treated pearlitic rail steel with refined microstructure used in rails. Monotonic tensile, rotating bending, linear elastic plane…
Limited by the mechanical properties of materials, silicon (Si) carbide insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) can no longer meet the requirements of high power and high frequency electronic devices. Silicon carbide (SiC) IGBT…
In the last years, a large amount of fatigue test results from plain and bluntly notched specimens made of AISI 304L stainless steel were synthetized in a single scatter band by adopting the specific heat loss per cycle (Q) as a damage…
In this work, the microstructural evolution, surface characteristics and wear behavior of high hardness AISI 440C samples coated with a TiN film synthesized at room temperature were investigated. The coating was deposited using a combined…
Cracks at notches deserve special consideration in the design of steam turbine components. This work is addressed to investigate the crack initiation behavior a 10%Cr rotor steel with the help of notched specimens under service-type…
