In this work, a micromechanical model is used in order to predict the failure surface of cement concrete subject to multi-axial compression. In the adopted model, the concrete material is schematised as a composite with the following…
The study focuses on examining the impact of internal manufacturing defects (voids and wrinkles) on the mechanical behavior of structural carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) under shear loading. Specimens of VKU/VSE1212 material with a…
The understanding of shear-mode crack growth mechanisms and crack branching phenomena is of great interest for a variety of practical engineering situations. Despite this fact, relatively little research is available regarding these…
Lately porous shape memory alloys (SMA) have attracted great interest as low weight materials characterized by high energy dissipation capability. In the present contribution a micromechanical study of porous SMA is proposed, introducing…
A fluidic amplifier is a crucial automatic control component in a liquid jet hammer used to drill hard formations in the oil industry. This study aims to determine the true causes of the fracture failure of baseplates in a fluidic…
Some numerical studies of crack propagation are based on using constitutive models that account for damage evolution in the material. When a critical damage value has been reached in a material point, it is natural to assume that this…
This study examines the rehabilitation performance of reinforced concrete bubble deck slabs (with 50 mm and 60 mm voids) strengthened with externally bonded CFRP sheets. Nine specimens were tested: eight bubble slabs (grouped by void size…
In the last decades, damaging micromechanisms in ductile cast irons (DCIs) have been widely investigated, considering both the matrix microstructure and the loading conditions influence. Considering the graphite nodules, they were…
The ductile fracture occurs mainly in three stages i.e. void nucleation, void growth and the voidcoalescence. The present work focuses on the study the coalescence of existing micro void in a ductile material, mild steel. The specimen with…
Single Point Incremental Forming was conducted on Aluminum1100 and Brass CuZn37 to form a hyperbolic truncated pyramid with varying wall angles until the fracture occurs. The formability of the specimens in terms of fracture depth and…
Under the hypothesis of a perfectly brittle phenomenon, avalanche triggering can be investigated numerically by means of Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFM). Since, however, the real phenomenon is intrinsically dynamical, another…
In this study, the relationships between processing, structure and properties of self-reinforced ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) composites fabricated via thermal pressing are investigated. By systematically varying…
Defects of concrete piles can occur at any point during the construction of piles. Most common types of pile integrity issues are; presence of voids, inconsistency in concrete mix, entrapped groundwater or slurry, and geometric…
Currently, the reinforcement of ordinary concrete with synthetic fibers poses ecological problems because the manufacturing process of these products is very polluting. Plant fiber composites are a new challenge for environmental…
The selective laser melting (SLM) technology is widely used to manufacture 316L stainless steel (SS) components for industrial applications. To understand the microstructure and the mechanical properties of additively manufactured 316L…
This study examines the changes in microstructure and mechanical properties of friction stir-welded (FSW) dissimilar joints between AA2014-T6 and AA5052-H32 aluminium alloys, with an emphasis on optimizing tool rotation speed for enhanced…
The creation of cracks, which are the most common cause of structural failure, has a significant impact on the structure's strength and durability. As a result, effective repair and maintenance are vital and unavoidable for treating any of…
The role of structural mechanisms responsible for the consequent staging of damage-failure transition as the combination and continuity of ductile and creep kinetics of the structure evolution and the modeling in dwell fatigue regime.…
The widespread use of carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites in sectors such as aerospace and aviation calls for the adoption of sustainable recycling protocols. This research evaluates the mechanical and tomographic…
In this paper, the initial and maximum load was studied using the Finite Element Modeling (FEM) analysis during impact testing (CVN) of pipeline X70 steel. The Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman (GTN) constitutive model has been used to simulate…
In recent decades, one can observe a great increase in the replacement of traditional materials with polymer composites in high-strength and lightweight applications. High fuel consumption by automobile and aerospace vehicles built from…
Some numerical studies of crack propagation are based on using constitutive models that account for damage evolution in the material. When a critical damage value has been reached in a material point, it is natural to assume that this…
Porous materials are defined as materials that contain holes, voids, or spaces in their structures, which can be interconnected or isolated. In the most complex forms of these materials, the holes can have irregular shapes with a random…
