The study deals with the effect of load history during threshold and fatigue crack propagation measurements in the near threshold regime. The compression pre cracking and the stepwise increasing load amplitude test was applied. The effects…
The recently proposed multiaxial racetrack filter (MRF) is able to deal with general non-proportional multiaxial load histories. While only requiring a single user-defined scalar filter amplitude, the MRF is able to synchronously eliminate…
Filtering techniques have been proposed for multiaxial load histories, usually aiming to filter out non-reversals, i.e. sampling points that do not constitute a reversal in any of its stress or strain components. However, the path between…
A method for fatigue life assessment in high-cycle domain under multiaxial loading is presented in this paper. This approach allows fatigue assessment under any kind of load history, without limitations. The methodology lies on the…
The Moment-Of-Inertia (MOI) method has been proposed by the authors to solve some of the shortcomings of convex-enclosure methods, when they are used to calculate path-equivalent ranges and mean components of complex non-proportional (NP)…
The paper presents results of calculation for modelling of the stressstrain relationship in the case of block loads with mean load value. A model, based on the stable hysteresis loops, was assumed and modified to use for block loading…
An original simplified formula is proposed to estimate the load history caused by ballistic impacts characterized by the so-called bullet splash phenomenon, consisting in the complete bullet fragmentation with no penetration of the target.…
A new critical plane approach based on the modified Manson-Coffin curve method (MMCCM) is presented in this paper for predicting fatigue lifetime under variable amplitude (VA) multiaxial fatigue loading. The critical plane is assumed to…
Fatigue crack growth (FCG) is associated with irreversible and non-linear processes happening at the crack tip. This explains different problems observed in the use of da/dN-?K curves, namely the inability to explain stress ratio and load…
While it is well known that fatigue crack growth in metals that display confined slip, such as high strength aluminium alloys, develop crack paths that are responsive to the loading direction and the local microstructural orientation, it…
Fatigue design routines and computer codes must use some damage accumulation rule to deal with variable amplitude loadings (VAL), usually Palmgren-Miner (or Miner’s) linear rule for lack of a clearly better option. Nevertheless, fatigue…
A scalar measure, which describes the non-proportionality of local stress paths in engineering applications, is introduced. For this purpose the moment of inertia approach by Meggiolaro is modified in a way that the stress time history is…
Elber's hypothesis that DeltaKeff can be assumed as the driving force for fatigue crack growth (FCG) is the basis for strip-yield models widely used to predict fatigue lives under variable amplitude loads, although it does not explain all…
This paper assesses a hybrid bracing system involving concentric steel bracing in combination with friction dampers to improve seismic performance in steel moment frame buildings. Three prototype (5, 10, and 15 stories) steel moment frame…
