This paper is concerned with the fracture of composite materials containing stress concentration features such as notches and holes. In particular, it addresses the question of the use of the Theory of Critical Distances (TCD) – a method…
Multiaxial high cycle fatigue is a topic that concerns nearly all industrial domains. In recent years, a great deal of recommendations how to address problems with multiaxial fatigue life time estimation have been made and a huge progress…
This paper contains a proposition setting out a new way of determining an orientation angle of the critical plane. The applied method involves an analysis of fatigue life results’ scatter of several selected materials on the basis of a new…
When the width of cracked nanocomponents made of brittle or quasi-brittle materials is less than approximately , the size of the - dominance zone becomes smaller than and comparable to the fracture process zone ( ). The fracture process…
This paper provides the background for practical applications of nonlinear fracture resistance parameters for structural integrity assessment of aviation structures with initial cracks. The subject of this numerical study is a fragment of…
This study examines the fracture toughness of Al6061 alloy-based hybrid composites reinforced with silicon carbide particles and cenosphere microspheres. Aluminum alloy Al6061 is widely utilized in structural applications due to its…
The research addresses evaluation of stress-strain state (SSS) in the “zygomatic bones–implants–denture base” system by varying the type and number of the zygomatic implants, as well as applying loads. The load magnitude was varied over a…
Research on determining the lifetime of an expansion bellows designed to compensate the difference in expansion between the shell and the tubes in a fixed tube sheet heat exchanger has never ceased because of its Importance in a heat…
This paper demonstrates the application of continuous wavelet transform technique for magnetic flux leakage signal generated during a uniaxial fatigue test. This is a consideration as the magnetic signal is weak and susceptible to being…
Belgrade fair hall 1 is well known for its dome, which is still the world largest self-supported construction made of pre-stressed concrete, with its diameter of 106 m. In this paper the Finite Element Method (FEM) was performed to analyze…
The stress field developed in a circular semi-ring under the combined action of diametral compression and bending is explored both analytically and numerically. The analytic solution is implemented by means of the complex potentials…
The role of some geometrical characteristics of the notches machined in circular discs, in order to determine the mode-I fracture toughness of brittle materials, is discussed. The study is implemented both analytically and numerically.…
Since the last two centuries, concrete has become the number one building material in the world. Therefore, we are interested in studying the mechanical behavior at failure of this material and calculate its toughness. In this paper, we…
The extended finite element (XFEM) method has been used to simulate fatigue crack growth in casing pipe, made of API J55 steel by high-frequency welding, in order estimate its structural integrity and life. Based on the critical value of…
Magnesium (Mg) alloys are attractive as structural materials due to their light weight and high specific strength. It is well known that Mg alloy has hexagonal close-packed (HCP) structure and only basal slip or twinning can operate during…
Most of the prior studies on the prediction of fatigue lives have been limited to uniaxial loading cases, whereas real world loading scenarios are often multiaxial, and the prediction of fatigue life based upon uniaxial fatigue properties…
From experimental and theoretical investigations it is known that cracks are sensitive to geometry, e.g., to the inclination angle to the load. A small deviation of a crack from the normal direction to a tensile load causes mixed mode…
In real industrial conditions, it’s common to witness the interaction of multiple cracks such that their stress fields and crack driving forces are disturbed. For coplanar cracks, a greater hazard is expected because of the amplification…
The fivefold symmetric modular stellarator Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) is currently under construction in Greifswald, Germany. The superconducting coils of the magnet system are bolted onto a central support ring and interconnected with five…
This investigation revisits biaxial fatigue experiments carried out with the nickel-based superalloy termed Waspaloy. Recently, yield criteria extended to multiaxial fatigue and stress based approaches were analysed and their performance…
The temporal evolution of the electric activity generated in marble specimens under uniaxial compression is analyzed and quantified in terms of the Pressure Stimulated Voltage (Electric Potential) developed. The evolution of the electric…
