Effect of protective coatings on the water absorption and mechanical properties of 3D printed PLA

Carlos Vicente, João Fernandes, Augusto Deus, Maria Vaz, Marco Leite, Luis Reis

This work aims to study the influence of protective coatings on the water absorption and mechanical properties of 3D printed poly–lactic acid (PLA) parts. The PLA parts were fabricated with different levels of the 3D printing process…

The notch effect on fracture of polyurethane materials

T. Voiconi, R. Negru, E. Linul, L. Marsavina, H. Filipescu

This paper investigates the fracture properties and notch effect of PUR materials with four different densities. The asymmetric semi-circular bend specimen was adapted to perform mixed mode fracture toughness tests. This semi-circular…

On the crack path under mixed mode loading on PUR foams

L. Marsavina, E. Linul, T. Voiconi, D. M. Constantinescu, D. A. Apostol

In this paper are presented the crack initiation angles obtained in polyurethane (PUR) foams under mixed mode loading. Closed cell rigid PUR foams having three different densities 100, 145, and 300 kg/m3 were investigated. Experiments were…

Flexural testing and analysis of full-strain-fields in sandwich composites

Rosa Marat-Mendes, Ricardo Martins, Alexandre Garcia, Luis Reis

The objective of this work was to characterize the full-field flexural behavior of composite sandwich beams. Finite element analysis was used to estimate the behavior of sandwich beams under three- and four-point-bending tests and were…
