A criterion for the prediction of the static failure loads in tensile PMMA specimens with sharp notches is presented. The proposed criterion is based on a regularized version of the eXtended Finite Element Method (XFEM), which has been…
Fully automatic fatigue crack growth simulation system is developed using S-version FEM (SFEM). This system is extended to fracture in heterogeneous material. In the heterogeneous material, crack tip stress field becomes mixed mode…
This research examines the mechanical characteristics of polymer composites (PMMA) that are reinforced with Hydroxyapatite (HAp), with a particular emphasis on the Elastic Modulus and Compressive Strength. The investigation employs a…
The use of Ni-Ti alloys in the practice of endodontic comes from their important properties such as shape memory and superelasticity phenomena, good corrosion resistance and high compatibility with biological tissues. In the last twenty…
The development of instrumented nanoindentation consists of non-destructive tests applied to miniature volumes of material (PMMA). The present research focuses on the factors explaining the variation in the trends of the mechanical…
Polymers are known to be sensitive to aging; their lifetime can be predicted through experimental tests. The present paper presents an experimental study on the long-term performance of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) exposed to solar and…
Mixed mode crack propagation analysis has been more accessible with the development of new numerical tools, allowing to evaluate the influence of non-mode I loadings in the crack path and in the growth rate. The aim of this work is to…
Strain energy density is successfully used as criterion for failure assessment of brittle and quasi-brittle material behavior. This work investigates the possibility to use this method to predict the strength of V-notched specimens made of…
The paper presents the results of computer simulation of a hybrid removable complete dentures (RCD) of a maxilla and analysis of its stress–strain states (SSSs) under typical operational loads. For improving their strength and stiffness…
This study investigates spall damage and failure in Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) pressure vessels under explosive internal loading using stimulated electric discharge. Analytical modeling, validation with published experimental…
PMMA has important micro structural heterogeneities such as cavities, and its elastic behavior is greatly affected by the presence of defects that may imply its weakening and cause failure. In areas of high concentrations of stress and due…
Most techniques of measuring the stress intensity factor (SIF) in the cracking process assume a crack in a planar medium. Currently, there is no effective approach for curved brittle shells, particularly for non-developable cases, i.e.…
The use of temporary hip prosthesis made of orthopedic cement (spacer) in conjunction with antibiotics became a prevalent method used for prosthetic infections remedy; consequently, this method makes bone cement (PMMA) more fragile. Hence…
A double cantilever beam geometry has been chosen in order to investigate the importance of the higher-order terms of the Williams’ power expansion for the crack path estimation. The crack propagation has been tested experimentally on a…
In the total hip prosthesis, according to different positions of the patient, there are a variety of loads acting on femoral head which generate stress concentration in the cement called polymethylmethacrylat (PMMA) and consequently in the…
