Offshore wind parks at locations further from the shore often involve serious difficulties, e.g. the maintenance. The bearings of offshore wind turbines are prone to suffer hydrogen-assisted rolling-contact fatigue (HA-RCF). Three…
Residual stresses are often inevitably introduced into the material during the fabrication processes, such as welding, and are known to have significant effects on the subsequent fatigue crack growth behavior of welded structures. In this…
Subsea wellhead systems exposed to severe fatigue loading are becoming increasingly a significant problem in offshore drilling operations due to their applications in wells with higher levels of pressure and temperature, situated at larger…
In this paper, a brief review of the main fatigue design criteria and some advanced fatigue approaches applied to offshore structures (e.g. offshore wind turbines) are presented. It is extremely important to understand the fatigue…
Offshore wind turbines often involve important engineering challenges such as the improvement of hydrogen embrittlement resistance of the turbine bearings. These elements frequently suffer the so-called phenomenon of hydrogen-assisted…
Wind power technologies are being used as a mean of harvesting the energy from the wind with low carbon impact and with great potential to contribute to a new energy paradigm. Great benefits may arise from the use of offshore turbines…
The numerical modeling and wave theory are used in tsunami mitigation analysis. It is assumed sea forest is simulating offshore structure submitted to wave loads. The sea forest acts simulate break waves in conservation of coastal…
The structural durability design of complex welded structures should not rely only on one single design method but should apply different methods for assuring the reliability of the assessment. In this context the application of the…
The present report presents a fatigue life prediction method for large roller bearings applied in the turret turn table for large loading buoy units. The contact points between wheel and rail in these bearings are subjected to a…
Strain-based design for offshore pipeline requires a considerable experimental work aimed to determine the material fracture toughness and the effective strain capacity of pipe and welds. Continuum damage mechanics can be used to limit the…
The main aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of a composite repair system in severely corroded circumferential welds in super duplex stainless steel pipes as a preventive measure against the premature corrosion damage at the…
The present study investigates the influence of corrosion exposure on the fatigue behavior of S460NL high-strength structural steel, a material that is frequently utilized in offshore and civil engineering structures. Accelerated corrosion…
