Probabilistic Elastic-plastic Fracture Mechanics Analysis of Propagation of Cracks in Pipes under Internal Pressure

Belaïd Mechab, Mokadem Salem, Medjahdi Malika, Serier Boualem

This study presents a three dimensional finite element method analysis of semi-elliptical surface cracks in pipes under internal pressure load. In the elastic–plastic case, estimates of the J-integral are presented for various ratios…

Prediction of the burst pressure for defective pipelines using different semi-empirical models

Sandip Budhe, S. de Barros, M. D. Banea

The main aim of this work is to predict the theoretical burst pressure of defective pipelines using different semi-empirical models and compare them with the results of the hydrostatic tests. A methodology was formulated with accounting…

Fatigue of weld ends under combined in- and out-of-phase multiaxial loading

E. Shams, M. Vormwald

Weld start and end points are fatigue failure sensitive locations. Their fatigue behaviour especially in thin sheet structures under multiaxial load conditions is not sufficiently explored so far. Therefore, a research project was…

Experimental methods for the characterization of fatigue in microstructures

G. De Pasquale, A. Somà

The mechanical fatigue behavior of gold microbeams is analyzed. Dedicated devices have been designed and built able to produce alternate loading on gold specimens; the electrostatic actuation is used as driving force. Gold beams are tested…

Comparative study of the repair of cracked plates with two different composite patches

Moulgada Abdelmadjid, Zagane Mohammed El Sallah, Sahli Abderahmane, Ait kaci Djafar, Zahi Rachid

The purpose of this study is to analyze the behavior of a crack with and without reinforcement by a composite patch of an aluminum plate in mode I using the finite element method. The repair patch is boron / epoxy and Carbon / epoxy, which…
