Fitness-for-service assessment of a cracked component intends to evaluate its remaining strength and remaining life to support the implementation of a maintenance plan. This research aims to develop a fitness-for-service assessment…
The aim of this work is the analysis of the contact area in a knee prosthesis using two different approaches. In particular, the interface between the femoral component and the polyethylene insert has been studied both numerically and…
The study aims at assessing the effects of the ultrasonic consolidation parameters and the insertion of energy directors from the commercially available polyetheretherketone film ~250 µm thick on the structure and mechanical properties of…
The aim of this work is to investigate the influence of the addition of silicon carbide and molybdenum disulfide on the microstructure and the tensile strength of the Al-Flyash hybrid composites prepared using the stir casting technique.…
Understanding the failure modes of damaged or cracked structures and repaired by bonding a composite patch is an essential point to improve its resistance to failure and subsequently extend its service life. In the present study, a 3D…
The influence of the austenite (γ) phase fraction on the hydrogen embrittlement of duplex stainless steel is investigated. Heat treatments are performed to create two duplex stainless steel specimens, containing 50% and 44% of austenite…
We analyse the problem of a simply supported beam, strengthened with a fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) strip bonded to its intrados and subjected to bending couples applied to its end sections. A mechanical model is proposed, whereby the…
This article deals with identifying defects of layered high strength steel materials with the help of tomography measurement. Test samples were made of S960 High Strength Steel to which layers of either aluminium bronze, hardchrome, cobalt…
The research addresses evaluation of stress-strain state (SSS) in the “zygomatic bones–implants–denture base” system by varying the type and number of the zygomatic implants, as well as applying loads. The load magnitude was varied over a…
A critical problem in the application of metal matrix composites is the presence of high residual thermal stresses induced during the development process. These thermally induced stresses are generally detrimental to the service life of…
The article conducts a study on the iron tailings sand concrete's fracture behaviour based on the double-K criterion. Five sets of standard three-point bending beam specimens of concrete with 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% iron tailings sand…
Fracture behavior of adhesive joints is an important topic in structural design of new structural elements or in retrofitting of existing ones. The mechanical models available in literature capable of predicting the failure mode of these…
This paper presents an application of the boundary element method to the analysis of crack growth problems in linear elastic fracture mechanics and the correlation of results with experimental data. The methodology consists of computing…
The modified disk shaped compact tension test is a configuration derived from standard compact tension test that is used for measuring fracture mechanical properties of primarily metallic materials. The compact tension configuration is…
This work aims at investigating the mechanisms activated during the extraction of titanium bars from a marble volume (pull-out phenomenon), used for rejoining fragmented marble structural members at the monuments of the Acropolis of…
The possibility of producing high carbon steel/Inconel 718 bimetallic parts via Fused Filament Fabrication and Sintering is explored. Compatibility of the two alloys with particular attention to elements interdiffusion through the…
In this study, the main objective was the creation of a code, which gives the capability to a Finite Element Analysis Program with no built-in crack study tools, to study the propagation of a crack, in a cracked surface. For this purpose…
This study develops stress intensity factor (SIF) solutions for cladded WWER reactor pressure vessel nozzles subjected to pressurised thermal shock loading. Although finite element analysis is widely used for fracture assessment…
Fatigue tests and measurements of the volumetric distribution of metallurgical hydrogen in specimens cut from rolled I-beam 60Sh3 made of steel 10KhSND were carried out. Fatigue tests show a 20% reduction in fatigue limits compared to…
Near surface mounted technique become the most attractive technique for strengthening RC structures. Several researches had been conducted to study experimentally the flexural behavior of RC members strengthened with NSM technique unlike…
This study experimentally investigates the tensile and bond performance of novel GFRP–SSWM hybrid wraps developed using two epoxy adhesives - Sikadur 30 LP and Sikadur 330. A total of 42 coupon specimens for tensile testing and 48 dumbbell…
