In this paper the process of dynamic indentation, causing deformation and fracture of alumina ceramics, is investigated. The dynamic indentation experiments were carried out on the original setup based on the split Hopkinson bar technique.…
The indentation response of a pseudoelastic nickel-titanium based shape memory alloy (SMA) has been analyzed. Indentation tests have been carried out at room temperature using a spherical diamond tip and indentation loads in the range…
The development of instrumented nanoindentation consists of non-destructive tests applied to miniature volumes of material (PMMA). The present research focuses on the factors explaining the variation in the trends of the mechanical…
Experimental indentations are carried out on items of two different materials, taken in several location of various components from high pressure gas turbine rotor which have seen an extensive service. The components object of…
In the present study, a semi-empirical modeling of the mechanical response in pile-up mode is obtained by deriving the load-depth relationship during the indentation loading cycle. The advantage compared to the relations previously used is…
Chemical reactions between carbon steel, water and chemical species produce corrosion layers (scales) on the internal surface of pipelines transporting hydrocarbons. Scales act as a diffusion barrier and prevent the progress of corrosion…
Residual stress significantly influences the mechanical performance, fatigue resistance, and structural reliability of titanium alloys used in engineering applications. This study investigates the residual stress distribution induced by…
In the field of composite materials, extensive research has been undertaken on aluminum-graphite composites. However, a research gap has been identified regarding the specific influence of nano-sized graphite particles on their fracture…
In this article, the characteristic curves of microindentation measured on Cu99 were analyzed on the basis of the analytical expression proposed by Habibi et al. (J. Mater. Res, 2021, 36 (15): 3074-3085). It was found that the ratio of the…
Metal-ceramic composites represent a class of quasi-brittle materials for advanced structural applications that require adequate mechanical characterization. Difficulties and costs associated with material production and specimen…
This study, concerns the improvement of the hardness and resistance to wear of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy surface by means of thermochemical treatment, for obtaining coatings on the Ti-6Al-4V alloy gives performance of resistance to wear…
A new approach has been developed and implemented to determine the main components of residual stresses that arise as a result of the contact interaction of a spherical indenter and a flat surface of composite plate made. The experimental…
New data concerning the values of residual stresses that arise as a result of the contact interaction of a spherical indenter and a flat surface of composite plate have been obtained. The studies are performed for both static indentation…
