This article deals with the locally multiaxial fatigue behaviour of high strength steel. To this end, the influence of the cracking path deflections (at the micro level) on the plasticity-induced fatigue crack growth is analyzed. With…
This paper is oriented to the experimental research of the mechanics of the CFRP sandwich plates, glass and carbon fiber sample panels with a large-cell honeycomb core. The method for testing polymer composite sample plates in compression…
New developments in thermal spraying processes may offer higher-quality alternatives to hard chrome plating and possibilities for hard chrome plating in a range of coating applications. These include spraying with high-velocity air fuel…
This work describes a two-dimensional numerical model that allows detecting the appearance of cracks and calculating their propagation in elements made of laminated bamboo, under tension and shear. This composite material has long parallel…
Aluminum alloys having good mechanical properties are Al-Zn- Mg alloys (7xxx) and Al-Cu-Li alloys (Weldalite®). These alloys may be subjected to stress corrosion cracking. In order to overcome this problem the Al 7050 alloy has been…
The aim of this work is to investigate the mechanical behavior of sandwich structures when subjected to edgewise and flatwise compression loadings, using 2D Digital Image Correlation (DIC). These structures are made of Glass Fiber…
The paper is related to the assessment of collapse mechanisms of historic masonry structures suffering settlements induced by ground movements. Two numerical strategies are adopted in order to study the influence of the settled zone on the…
This article defines the main actions planned in the procedure of non-destructive testing and analysis of defects in the BK1 industrial mill of the cement plant of the GICA group. One of the subjects attracting the attention of researchers…
Under the cold impact of liquid nitrogen, the shale suffers from the significant freezing damage, which provides the possibility of liquid nitrogen fracturing. Moreover, shale fracturing assisted by liquid nitrogen can effectively reduce…
This study examines the rehabilitation performance of reinforced concrete bubble deck slabs (with 50 mm and 60 mm voids) strengthened with externally bonded CFRP sheets. Nine specimens were tested: eight bubble slabs (grouped by void size…
Ageing infrastructure is of major concern for different industrial sectors across Europe. Fatigue cracking is one of the most important damage mechanisms that affect structural health of welded steel structures. Fatigue assessment of…
The analysis of reinforced concrete structures can be performed by means of experiments or numerical studies. The first way is usually quite expensive, so the second one sometimes is a good option to understand the physical behaviour of…
This paper aims to disclose the influence law of cracks on instantaneous and long-term deflections of reinforced beam. For this purpose, four concrete beams were created, pre-loaded to varied degrees of cracking, and reinforced with carbon…
Brazing is a widely employed joining technique for aluminium components due to its cost-effectiveness and compatibility with complex geometries. However, the structural integrity of brazed joints under cyclic loading remains a scarcely…
This study investigates the impact of aggregate and pipe cooling systems on concrete behaviour at a mesoscale level. Firstly, a Chemo-Thermo-Mechanical model is developed to investigate the initial stress state of early age hydration…
This work constitutes a contribution to the analysis of the behavior of beams reinforced by composite materials. The analysis was made by a study on concrete elements, and in pre-cracked reinforced concrete then reinforced with carbon…
A new technique of Layered Hollow Core Slab (LHCS) has been used to obtain a slab with an optimum weight-to-strength ratio. Specimens with a 90 mm top layer of High Strength Concrete (HSC) and a 90 mm bottom layer of Lightweight Aggregate…
In this work, we analyze three - dimensionally, by the finite element method, the performance of the repair of aeronautical structures damaged by cracking and repaired by patch of composite materials. The effect of crack-crack interaction…
The near surface mounted (NSM) method of inserting fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) elements (rods or lamina) into notches has been shown to be a good way for restoring reinforced concrete (RC) elements. The knowledge about the use of…
Most techniques of measuring the stress intensity factor (SIF) in the cracking process assume a crack in a planar medium. Currently, there is no effective approach for curved brittle shells, particularly for non-developable cases, i.e.…
Fatigue cracking of longerons manufactured from Al-alloy AVT-1 for helicopter in-service rotor-blades was considered and crack growth period and equivalent of tensile stress for different blade sections were estimated. Complicated case of…
A detailed investigation was conducted into the fracture mechanisms of cylindrical specimens made of a polycrystalline heat-resistant nickel-based alloy XH73MBTU-VD (EI698-VD), under uniaxial tension in the temperature range of 25–700°C.…
Impact loadings such as vehicle collisions or falling rocks on a structure could lead it to collapse and, eventually, to fatal victims. Among possible alternatives to analyse this issue, Lumped Damage Mechanics is an interesting option due…
The use of fibre reinforced polymers (FRP) for increasing the strength of RC structures became a usual method. FRP presents easy application and demands low space and provide significant strength increase. Usually, the decision for FRP use…
