Ultrasonic impact treatment (UIT) is a remarkable post-weld technique applying mechanical impacts in combination with ultrasound into the welded joints. In the present work, a 3D simulation method including welding simulation, numerical…
La simulazione numerica della propagazione di una frattura in MODO I, viaggiante ad elevata velocità in un acciaio a comportamento duttile è realizzata attraverso un modello coesivo che governa la distribuzione delle forze di rilascio…
Cyclic stress-strain response and fatigue damage character has been investigated in austenitic stainless steel 316L. Hollow cylindrical specimens have been cyclically deformed in combined tension-compression and torsion under constant…
Simulating the concrete fracture unlike other elastic and brittle materials quite different due to its quasibrittleness. The present research focussed on assess softening behavior by varying different fractions of aggregates and cement…
The high ductility of Fiber Reinforced Self-consolidating concrete (called Sismabeton) can be developed not only in tension but also in compression. This aspect is evidenced in the present paper by measuring the mechanical response of…
In the present study a multi-scale computational strategy for the analysis of masonry structures is presented. The structural macroscopic behaviour is obtained making use of the Computational Homogenization (CH) technique based on the…
We analyse the problem of a simply supported steel beam subjected to uniformly distributed load, strengthened with a pre-stressed fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) laminate. We assume that the laminate is first put into tension, then bonded…
The paper is devoted to theoretical and experimental investigation of materials behavior on postcritical deformation stage (strain softening). Tests results, which confirm theoretical justification of specimen configuration impact on the…
Fatigue life depends strongly on irreversible contributions that accumulate during cyclic loading and unloading of structures. However, the correct identification of the loading path in terms of uniaxial or multi-axial stress states…
The fatigue behavior of carburized components such as automotive transmission gears is very complex due to hardness and microstructure difference, residual stresses and multi-axial stress states developed between the case and the core. In…
This communication anticipates some results of a work in progress [1], addressed to explore the efficiency of the diffuse cohesive energy model for describing the phenomena of fracture and yielding. A first local model is partially…
Components and structures are designed based in their material’s mechanical properties such as Young's modulus or yield stress among others. Often those properties are obtained under monotonic mechanical tests but rarely under cyclic ones.…
Properties of asphalt mixture play a vital role in structural integrity and performance of flexible pavements structure. In flexible pavements asphalt concrete surface layer consists of asphalt binder, aggregates and in some cased…
In the present work, the damage propagation of a masonry arch induced by slow cyclic and dynamic loadings is studied. A two-dimensional model of the arch is proposed. A nonlocal damage-plastic constitutive law is adopted to reproduce the…
Microstructural characteristics, monotonic and strain-controlled cyclic axial behaviors of AW2099-T83 Aluminum-Lithium alloy were investigated. Grain sizes and structures are not uniform in the different orientations studied. High strength…
Experimental tests were conducted on additive manufactured Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy to investigate the mechanical and crack properties under multiaxial cyclic loading. Selective Laser Sintering technique (SLS) was employed to fabricate…
The study investigates the application of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in constructions of bridges. It highlights the main advantages of using FRP as a building material and points out its suitability for various structural…
Welding is a technique of fusion joining the material involving a process of inter-molecular diffusion adhesion. Polymer welding is an assembly method among several known assembly techniques such as gluing. This welding process applies to…
We analyse the problem of a simply supported beam, strengthened with a fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) strip bonded to its intrados and subjected to bending couples applied to its end sections. A mechanical model is proposed, whereby the…
Aim of the paper is to present a one dimensional simple model for the study of the bond behavior of Fabric Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) strengthening systems externally applied to structural substrates. The equilibrium of an…
We propose a method of construction of non homogeneous solutions to the problem of traction ofa bar made of an elastic-damaging material whose softening behavior is regularized by a gradient damage model. We show that, for sufficiently long…
The reinforced concrete structure is typical and widely used in many fields. The behavior of concrete is nonlinear and complex. Especially, when cracks/crushings occurred in softening phase. Thus, It is important to find a damaged model of…
Many numerical methods are carried out to study the nonlinear failure behaviors of the rock; however, the numerical simulation methods for the failed rock are still in the research stage. This paper establishes the damage constitutive…
