This work consists of an experimental study on the ageing response and resulting properties of AA7050 plate material. New heat treatments are investigated for achieving a peak-aged temper, as a T6 temper may be said to be, that achieves…
This paper examines the influence of controlled heat treatments on the mechanical behaviour of Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium alloy) to improve its performance in structural and high performance applications. Ti-6Al-4V is widely used in…
The present paper describes a novel experimental technique recently presented that allows one to study interactions between the crack and microstructural barriers with an unprecedented level of ease and detail. The method consists in…
Additive manufacturing (AM) could be used to reduce the production times of prototypes; however, further research is required to address metals structural parts. To obtain the correct properties, some relevant factors to be considered are…
Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a new innovative technique that allows the direct fabrication of complex, individual, delicate and high-strength products, based on their 3D data. Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is one of the AM processes that…
The automotive industry is continuously looking for an innovative mix of new steels and manufacturing techniques in order to improve process chain efficiency and cost reduction. To this aim, boron steels are becoming increasingly popular…
Ductile irons mechanical properties are strongly influenced by the metal matrix microstructure and on the graphite elements morphology. Depending on the chemical composition, the manufacturing process and the heat treatments, these…
The increase in life expectancy and attention to the quality of life of elderly people spurred the need, in the last decades, to increase the capabilities of medical and surgical techniques. Among these, the development of prosthetic…
Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a technological process in which elements are fruitfully built up adding materials layer by layer. AM had a massive development in recent times, thanks to its intrinsic advantages, especially if compared with…
Nowadays, an increasing number of oil and gas transmission pipes are constructed with high-strength low alloy steels (HSLA); however, many of these pipelines suffer from different types of hydrogen damages, such as hydrogen-induced…
The first stage of this study investigates the precipitation of free ferrite from the austenite on fully austenitized ductile iron. Several sets of samples of low alloy ductile iron are fully austenitized and then cooled down to different…
The goal of this work is to improve the understanding of the relation between the microstructural characteristics of Intercritical Austempered Ductile Cast Iron (IADI) and the damage micromechanisms observed during its tensile loading. The…
The influence of the austenite (γ) phase fraction on the hydrogen embrittlement of duplex stainless steel is investigated. Heat treatments are performed to create two duplex stainless steel specimens, containing 50% and 44% of austenite…
