Enhancement of circular RC columns using steel mesh as internal or external confinement under the influence of axial compression loading

Mohamed Emara, Mostafa S. Rizk, Heba A. Mohamed, Mahmoud Zaghlal

Reinforced concrete (RC) columns cannot get supreme confinement by using the customary steel stirrups reinforcement because of the requirements for the spacing distances between the stirrups in addition to concrete continuance trouble. For…

Sismabeton: a new frontier for ductile concrete

Bernardino Chiaia, Alessandro P. Fantilli, Paolo Vallini

The high ductility of Fiber Reinforced Self-consolidating concrete (called Sismabeton) can be developed not only in tension but also in compression. This aspect is evidenced in the present paper by measuring the mechanical response of…

Effectiveness of Partial Wrapping of Stainless-Steel Wire Mesh on Compression Behavior of Concrete Cylinders

Sunil Raiyani, Paresh Patel, S Suriya Prakash

Partial confinement can provide sufficient reinforcement to enhance the compressive strength and ductility of concrete with lesser confining material. This paper presents the results of an axial compression test conducted on eighteen plain…

Investigation of the effect of impact load on concrete-filled steel tube columns under fire

Ali Golsoorat Pahlaviani, Ali Mohammad Rousta, Peyman Beiranvand

Concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) columns are increasingly used in the construction of high-rise buildings which require high strength and large working space especially at lower stories. As compared to reinforced concrete columns…

Numerical Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Circular Columns Strengthening With CFRP under Concentric and Eccentric Loadings

Ibrahim Harba, Abdulkhalik Abdulridha, Ahmed AL-Shaar

The purpose of this study is to explore the numerical behavior of circular RC short columns with different degrees of confinement with CFRP (0%, 25%, 50%, and 100%) wraps under concentric and eccentric loading. The numerical analysis…

Comparison of Two Parameters Models for clay brick masonry confinement

Giancarlo Ramaglia, Gian Piero Lignola, Andrea Prota

Masonry elements are often strengthened in order to improve their structural capacity. Generalized methods to assess the behavior of confined masonry columns are not available in the technical literature. They have been usually derived…
