This paper reports hardness testing conducted on welded butt joints by FSW and TIG welding process on similar and dissimilar aluminium alloys. FSW joints were produced for similar alloys of AA7075T651 and dissimilar alloys of AA7075T651…
The subject for studies is an aluminium cylindrical hollow specimen with external axial and part circumferential semi-elliptical surface crack undergoing fatigue loads. Both the optical microscope measurements and the crack opening…
While it is well known that fatigue crack growth in metals that display confined slip, such as high strength aluminium alloys, develop crack paths that are responsive to the loading direction and the local microstructural orientation, it…
Enrico Mattei, the President of the Italian oil conglomerate, ENI, was about to land in Milan Linate Airport on October 27, 1962 when his airplane crashed on the ground due to a then unexplained accident. The investigation, reopened more…
Brazing is a widely employed joining technique for aluminium components due to its cost-effectiveness and compatibility with complex geometries. However, the structural integrity of brazed joints under cyclic loading remains a scarcely…
The impact behaviour of 6061 alloy with trace amount of 0, 0.04, and 0.08 wt.% Sn was studied in the as-cast (AC), as-roll (AR) and peak-age roll (PAR) processing state. Additionally, the fracture mechanism was also studied in the AC and…
The present study focused on the evaluation of critical influencing parameters of the FSW of AA6061-T6 and AA2024-T351 alloys. The materials properties of AA6061-T6 are heat-treatable alloys possessing properties of good resistance to…
Aircraft have been manufactured for decades using a wide variety of welding and joining techniques. There have been significant developments in techniques over the last 15–20 years. In civil aeronautical industry the main materials used for…
The demanding material quality criteria in the automotive and aerospace industries have recently had an impact on the development of lightweight aluminium alloys. The choice and application of metal-matrix composites as structural…
The question about the existence of a correlation between the parameters C and m of the Paris’ law is re-examined in this paper. According to dimensional analysis and incomplete self-similarity concepts applied to the linear range of…
Fatigue cracking of longerons manufactured from Al-alloy AVT-1 for helicopter in-service rotorblades was considered and crack growth period and equivalent of tensile stress for different blade sections were estimated. Complicated case of…
In recent decades, one can observe a great increase in the replacement of traditional materials with polymer composites in high-strength and lightweight applications. High fuel consumption by automobile and aerospace vehicles built from…
In this paper, numerical investigation was carried out to quantify the effect of the cold expansion on fatigue crack initiation in Aluminium alloy. The improvement in fatigue initiation life of specimen after the cold expansion process was…
The need for the fabrication of sustainable aluminium matrix composites (AMCs) is being sought after as practical alternatives to conventional metals and their alloys. This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of sustainable…
This study examines the changes in microstructure and mechanical properties of friction stir-welded (FSW) dissimilar joints between AA2014-T6 and AA5052-H32 aluminium alloys, with an emphasis on optimizing tool rotation speed for enhanced…
In recent times, the use of aluminum alloy-based Hybrid Metal Matrix Composites (HMMCs) is being increased in aerospace and automotive applications. HMMCs compensate for the low desirable properties of each filler used. However, the…
Hybrid metal matrix composites (MMCs), recognized for their superior strength-to-weight ratios and synergistic property enhancements, are emerging as advanced materials capable of mitigating the inherent limitations observed in…
Fatigue cracking of longerons manufactured from Al-alloy AVT-1 for helicopter in-service rotor-blades was considered and crack growth period and equivalent of tensile stress for different blade sections were estimated. Complicated case of…
