Crack initiation and propagation have been investigated on the polymeric material ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), under ultrasonic fatigue testing. Three controlled actions were implemented in order to carry out fatigue tests at…
The very high cycle region of the S-N fatigue curve has been the subject of intensive research on the last years, with special focus on axial, bending, torsional and fretting fatigue tests. Very high cycle fatigue can be achieved using…
A new fatigue testing device has been developed to test specimens under biaxial loading at 20 kHz. A flat smooth specimen with a disc geometry is placed on a torus frame and cyclically loaded at the center of its upper face. Disc bending…
In this paper we investigated the influence of consecutive dynamic and gigacycle fatigue loads on the lifetime of aluminum-magnesium alloy AlMg6. Preloading of samples was achieved during dynamic tensile tests in the split-Hopkinson bar…
Concrete was considered to be very durable material for a long time. However many constructions have shown degradations during their service life. To ensure safety, stability and serviceability of civil engineering structures…
The use of carbon-fiber composite materials (CFRP) in critical cases implies an increase in the resistance to the stability of their mechanical properties. For the purpose of in-depth analysis of defects in the experiments, an integrated…
Ultrasonic fatigue tests are carried out under the modality of three points bending on the granite stone. The testing specimens present a prismatic shape with the dimensions: 12 x 3 x 0.8 centimeters, in order to be supported at the two…
This paper proposes an efficient methodology to monitor the formation of cracks in concrete after non-destructive ultrasonic testing of a structure. The objective is to be able to automatically detect the initiation of cracks early enough…
Ultrasonic fatigue tests were carried out on stainless steel AISI 316 and 304, under two modalities: at room temperature and in immersion (water for 316 and antifreeze for 304 steels); all tests were carried out with a loading ratio R=-1.…
This study investigates the structural behaviour of elements produced by extrusion-based 3D concrete printing (3DCP). Six full-scale columns with intentional imperfections were tested in three-point bending and subsequently analysed…
Nowadays, many components and structures are subjected to fatigue loading with a number of cycles higher than 107. In this scientific work, the behaviour of two kinds of tool steel was investigated in very high cycle fatigue regime. The…
Crack initiation characteristics and fatigue property of a high-strength steel in very-high-cycle fatigue (VHCF) regime under different stress ratios were investigated in this paper. Fatigue tests were performed at stress ratios of -1…
In recent years, very-high-cycle fatigue (VHCF) behavior of metallic materials has become a major point of interest for researchers and industries. The needs of specific industrial fields (aerospace, mechanical and energy industry) for…
Gigacycle fatigue properties of materials are strongly affected by the specimen risk volume (volume of material subjected to a stress amplitude larger than the 90% of the maximum stress). Gigacycle fatigue tests, performed with ultrasonic…
A large number of mechanical components are subjected to fatigue loading beyond 106 cycles. The VHCF behaviour of smooth specimens has been extensively investigated in the recent years, even if more efforts are necessary to reveal the…
This work is dedicated to the experimental study of the influence of preliminary dynamic loading on the residual strength of the laminated polymer composite under compression. A series of low-velocity transverse drop-weight impact tests in…
This article defines the main actions planned in the procedure of non-destructive testing and analysis of defects in the BK1 industrial mill of the cement plant of the GICA group. One of the subjects attracting the attention of researchers…
This paper presents integrity and life estimation of turbine runner cover in a vertical pipe turbines, Kaplan 200 MW nominal output power, produced in Russia, and built in six hydro-generation units of hydroelectric power plant „Đerdap 1”…
The profile samples prepared by focused ion beam (FIB) in crack initiation region (CIR) and fish-eye (FiE) region of failed specimens subjected to rotary bending (RB) and ultrasonic axial (UL) fatigue testing with various stress ratios (R)…
