We analyse the problem of a simply supported steel beam subjected to uniformly distributed load, strengthened with a pre-stressed fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) laminate. We assume that the laminate is first put into tension, then bonded…
Bolted joints are the most common solution for joining composite components in aerospace structures. Critical structures such as wing to fuselage joints, or flight control surface fittings use bolted joining techniques. Recent research…
This paper presents a dynamic and critical buckling analysis of the presence of a crack of steel-polymer concrete composite beams modelled using a refined quasi 3D beam theory. The beam model is a hollow steel box section filled with a…
Multiaxial fatigue behavior is an important topic in critical structural components. In the present study the biaxial-planar fatigue behavior of a powder metallurgical TRIP steel (Transformation Induced Plasticity) was studied by taking…
The paper presents an experimental investigation of the flexural behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) beam elements strengthened externally with stainless steel wire mesh (SSWM). SSWM has the potential to be an alternative composite…
In rolling contact fatigue (RCF), cracks usually initiate from inclusions beneath the surface and propagate to the contact surface. In the present study, synchrotron radiation computed laminography (SRCL) imaging was performed to observe…
An experimental study and a proposed theoretical solution are conducted in the present study to investigate the ductile/brittle failure mode of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with an external steel plate. The present experimental…
Concrete containing wastes from the demolition of old deteriorated buildings are produced enormously. Concrete is a brittle matrix that is usually reinforced by ductile reinforcement such as steel bars. However, due to the susceptibility…
This study presents the first investigation into the use of glass fiber reinforced polymer GFRP to strengthen steel beams with web openings. Based on previous research about the strengthening of steel beams with web perforation using…
To reduce the depth of floor-beam structures and to save the cost of headed-shear studs, many types of shallow composite beam have been developed during the last few years. Among them, the shallow-hollow steel beam consists of web…
In this study, an attempt was made to recreate the bearing damage phenomenon “White Etching Cracks” with a simplified testing setup. Rolling contact fatigue conditions were simulated with in-phase and out-ofphase cyclic compression-torsion…
Beam-column joints which shoulders high-level and vertical shearing effect that maintains balance of beam and column end is the major component influencing the performance of the whole framework. Post earthquake investigation suggests that…
Crack initiation characteristics and fatigue property of a high-strength steel in very-high-cycle fatigue (VHCF) regime under different stress ratios were investigated in this paper. Fatigue tests were performed at stress ratios of -1…
The paper presents an experimental analysis of tracking the path of the cracks and crack growth in strengthened or repair reinforced concrete short corbels bonded by carbon fiber fabrics under static and dynamic loads. The reinforced short…
The present experimental study includes testing thirteen reinforced concrete beams with openings at different locations to investigate the efficiency of strengthening such openings. Different strengthening techniques around the opening…
The dynamic experimental and numerical analysis of cracked beams has been studied with the aim of quantifying the influence of depth crack on the dynamic response of steel beams. Artificial Neural Method ANN has been used where a numerical…
The wide use of cold-formed sections (CFS) in the field of steel constructions, favored by the multiple advantages they offer (lightness, ease of installation, etc.), has led us to reflect on a new process for manufacture of metal beams…
The subject matter of these notes refers to the Ultimate Strength Design of 2-D steel framed structures and in particular to the analysis of the deformation state at collapse. The idea is based on the consideration that, if the structure…
There are various benefits to ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC). However, using a lot of cement in this type of concrete has a severe disadvantage since it causes pollution and several environmental concerns.…
During the past few decades, composite beams (steel I beam and concrete slab) have had a wide range of uses, particularly in bridge construction. This is due to its relatively low economic cost compared to individual steel structures or…
In the present article the failure behaviour of a steel, beam type element supported against fire by protection boards, is studied. Three – dimensional, coupled temperature - displacement, non-linear finite element analysis models have…
In the present work, the fracture toughness (KIC) of full-depth (FD) fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) and layered functionally graded concrete (FGC) matrix cracked (MC) beams has been determined by the equivalent relationships of the…
Bendable concrete is also defined as engineered cementitious composites because of its great ductility and tight fracture width limitation. ECC mixtures by adding additional Portland cement, silica sand and fly ash, fiber types…
Fatigue tests and measurements of the volumetric distribution of metallurgical hydrogen in specimens cut from rolled I-beam 60Sh3 made of steel 10KhSND were carried out. Fatigue tests show a 20% reduction in fatigue limits compared to…
Continuous composite beams may suffer a global instability know as lateral distortional buckling (LDB). The design code EN 1994-1-1:2004 provides a procedure for the verification of this ultimate limit state, in which the resistant bending…
An experimental and numerical study was achieved to investigate the behavior of masonry beams internally reinforced using carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) and hybrid steel/CFRP reinforcements. In addition, the use of masonry…
