Cutting processes affect the material to a deeper or shallower attached-to-the-cut zone. Its microstructure, its hardness and mechanical properties are changed. Also the cutting process introduces surface roughness and residual stresses.…
The present paper addresses experimentally the high temperature fatigue of 40CrMoV13.9 steel and the effect of surface roughness on fatigue strength and crack initiation. The 40CrMoV13.9 steel is widely used in different engineering high…
This study investigates the effects of complex (nonproportional) loading on plastic deformation in aluminum alloys (Al-6% Mg), with a focus on understanding surface morphology changes driven by the Portevin–Le Chatelier effect. Mechanical…
Elastic fracture mechanics commonly defines the fracture resistance of brittle materials within an idealised picture of planar and traction free cracks. An efficient approach to describe the interface conditions in real cracks, such as…
The understanding of shear-mode crack growth mechanisms and crack branching phenomena is of great interest for a variety of practical engineering situations. Despite this fact, relatively little research is available regarding these…
Machinability of engineering materials is crucial for industrial manufacturing processes since it affects all the essential aspects involved, e.g. workload, resources, surface integrity and part quality. Two basic machinability…
A brief description of cold spray coating process is presented. This paper intends to review some the previous works which are mostly about the influences of the cold spray parameters, mostly the surface of the substrate, on the deposition…
Designing tooling and cooling systems to prevent cutting tool damage is crucial while machining difficult-to-cut nickel alloys. This study investigates the machining effects during turning Inconel 718 using unitary aluminum oxide (Al2O3)…
This paper deals with the fatigue crack propagation behavior of rolled AZ31B magnesium alloy (grain size: approximately 40 ?m). Fatigue crack propagation tests were performed on single edge notched tension specimens at a stress ratio of R…
In fatigue life, surface integrity perform a major role to determine the fatigue lifetime. It could differ greatly among specific cases even for the same solicitations. Indeed, the manufacturing process carries modifications on surface…
The machinability of polymer matrix composites with fibers strongly depends on the type of fiber and dosage in question, having a high influence on the selection of tools and cutting parameters. The cutting temperature depends of rotation…
