The aim of this work is a review of scientific results in the literature, related to the application of thermographic techniques to composite materials. Thermography is the analysis of the surface temperature of a body by infrared rays…
The infrared thermography is an attractive tool for studying the fatigue behavior of materials. Based on two theoretical models of fatigue damage indicators, this work studied the fatigue properties of the virgin Ti- 6Al-4V alloy.…
The principle of Line Scan Thermography (LST) was used to develop a self-propelled infrared thermographic nondestructive testing device for the inspection of large, relatively flat composite aerospace parts, such as aircraft wings. The…
This work is devoted to the comparative analysis of three techniques for measurement of energy dissipation in metals under fatigue crack propagation: original contact heat flux sensor, post-processing of the infrared thermography data and…
Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) materials used for lightweight aircraft structures are susceptible to low velocity accidental impacts during manufacture and while in service. In this study the CFRP laminates subjected to low…
The use of components obtained through the additive manufacturing (AM) technique has become increasingly widespread in recent years, playing a central role in industrial production, and in particular in some fields such as automotive…
This paper aims to illustrate the use of infrared thermography as a non-destructive and non-contact technique to observe the phenomenological manifestation of damage in granite under unconfined compression. It allows records and…
The work is devoted to the experimental and numerical investigation of thermodynamic aspects of the plastic deformation in Armco iron. Dissipation and stored energies was calculated from processed experimental data of the surface…
The development of additive technologies for manufacturing safety‑critical components operating under vibration must be accompanied by a careful analysis of the material’s resistance to high‑cycle fatigue (HCF). This paper presents a…
The Static Thermographic Method (STM) involves analyzing the thermal behavior of a specimen subjected to a quasi-static tensile test. The temperature trend, measured by an infrared camera, follows three phases where the first and second…
Monitoring the energy release during fatigue tests of common engineering materials has been shown to give relevant information on fatigue properties, reducing the testing time and material consumption. During a static tensile test, it is…
Technology of strengthening reinforced concrete structures with composite materials has found wide application. The effectiveness of strengthening of concrete structures with externally bonded reinforcement is supported by a great deal of…
The use of carbon-fiber composite materials (CFRP) in critical cases implies an increase in the resistance to the stability of their mechanical properties. For the purpose of in-depth analysis of defects in the experiments, an integrated…
The paper describes the implementation of 3D numerical simulation in machine learning models used in infrared thermographic nondestructive testing. The enhancement of generalizability of such models emerges as a decisive factor for…
The paper deals with the investigation of the temporal instabilities and spatial localization due to the Lüders behavior and the Portevin–Le Chatelier effect in the carbon steel C1010 and the aluminummagnesium alloy AA5052, which manifest…
A need to timely reveal operational damages and technological defects requires a prompt control of states of structures made from composite materials and their consequent repairs aimed at service life extension. This work is devoted to the…
The evaluation of the seismic safety of ancient masonry buildings usually requires compounding the need of preservation of the historical values with the need of achieving a proper level of knowledge of the parameters influencing their…
The work is devoted to the experimental study of heat dissipation process caused by fatigue crack propagation. To investigate a spatial and time temperature evolution at the crack tip set of experiments was carried out using specimens with…
The aim of this research activity was to study the fatigue behavior of laser welded joints of titanium alloy, in which the welding was performed using a laser source and in the absence of filler material, by means of unconventional full…
Within this work, the causes of collapses and damages occurred in masonry artefacts have been evaluated to properly identify suitable monitoring and restoration methods. In this regard, a comprehensive literature review has been performed.…
In this paper thermal analysis was applied to determine the “Critical Stress” of concrete, different from its ultimate strength, able to produce the first damage in the structures under compressive loads. The Critical Stress can be thought…
The work is devoted to experimental study of heat flow evolution at the fatigue crack tip during biaxial loading. The plane samples of titanium alloy Graid-2 with thick of 1 mm were weakened by notch to initiate fatigue crack at the center…
