Finite Element analysis of stress state in the cement of total hip prosthesis with elastomeric stress barrier

Allaoua Fadela, Lebbal Habib, Belarbi Abderrahmane

In the total hip prosthesis, according to different positions of the patient, there are a variety of loads acting on femoral head which generate stress concentration in the cement called polymethylmethacrylat (PMMA) and consequently in the…

Integrated FEM-Multibody Co-Simulation of Additively Manufactured Hip Prosthesis containing cracks.

Domenico Gentile, Roberto Di Bona, Giuseppe Peter Vanoli, Gabriel testa, Sara Ricci

The increase in life expectancy and attention to the quality of life of elderly people spurred the need, in the last decades, to increase the capabilities of medical and surgical techniques. Among these, the development of prosthetic…

Numerical Analysis of the Crack Growth Path in the Cement of Hip Spacers

Sahnoun Zengah, Abdeljelil Mankour, Sahli Abderahmane, Hichem Salah, Abdelhafid Mallek, Mohammed Mokhtar Bouziane

The use of temporary hip prosthesis made of orthopedic cement (spacer) in conjunction with antibiotics became a prevalent method used for prosthetic infections remedy; consequently, this method makes bone cement (PMMA) more fragile. Hence…

Numerical simulation of a crack emanating from a micro-cavity in the orthopedic cement by technical sub modeling of total hip prosthesis

Sahli Abderahmane, Ait Kaci Djafar, Zahi Rachid, Moulgada Abdelmadjid, Benbarek Smail

PMMA has important micro structural heterogeneities such as cavities, and its elastic behavior is greatly affected by the presence of defects that may imply its weakening and cause failure. In areas of high concentrations of stress and due…
