Fatigue surface crack growth is studied through experiments and computations for aluminum alloys D16T and B95AT (analogue of 2024 and 7075 aluminum). Subjects for studies are cylindrical hollow specimens with external semi-elliptical…
This work is based on the application of probabilistic fracture mechanics (MRP) models to predict the reliability of pressure pipelines in nuclear power reactors. The simulation of cracking of stainless steel piping under the conditions of…
Biaxial tension-torsion fatigue tests are carried out on the membrane material Nafion 115 (perfluorosulfonic acid, PFSA). This polymeric material is used in fuel cells as proton exchange membrane, undergoing frequently mechanical loading…
Subsea wellhead systems exposed to severe fatigue loading are becoming increasingly a significant problem in offshore drilling operations due to their applications in wells with higher levels of pressure and temperature, situated at larger…
In this research, the variational mode decomposition (VMD) method is used for the drive-by health monitoring of bridges. Firstly, the problem of a half-trailer tractor moving over a bridge is formulated. Next, a Finite Element (FE) code is…
Ultrasonic fatigue tests were carried out on stainless steel AISI 316 and 304, under two modalities: at room temperature and in immersion (water for 316 and antifreeze for 304 steels); all tests were carried out with a loading ratio R=-1.…
Metallic structural components, placed in contact with other bodies while experiencing vibrations in operating conditions, are susceptible to fretting, which can have a significant impact on their fatigue performance. Although extensive…
Explicit and simple expressions for root compliance coefficients, which can be used to define root rotations and root displacements at the crack tip cross section of orthotropic cracked beams, are derived under general self-equilibrated…
Equivalent single layer theories for layered beams effectively and accurately predict global displacements and internal force and moment resultants using a limited number of displacement variables. However, they cannot reproduce local…
Concretes with water to cement (or binder) ratios of 0.50. 0.40, 0.30 and 0.20 were prepared and long-term mechanical properties were measured. Porous light-weight aggregates (LWA) in dosages of 10 % and 20 % were used for self-curing…
The company DRC (pipe repair Department) located within the SONATRACH Company of oil and gas in Algeria, which is responsible for the repair of pipelines for the transport of gas or crude petroleum, will rehabilitate old pipes that have…
Conductive PLA is an innovative composite material that combines the ecological benefits of polylactic acid, a biodegradable thermoplastic, with electrical conductivity properties. Usually used in additive manufacturing for its ease of…
In order to study the effect of polypropylene fibers on the durability of cementitious composites, several experimental tests have been carried out in the laboratory. The composite was tested with different volume fractions of…
In several industrial applications, plastic, composites and ceramics replace a number of metallic structures such as copper, aluminum and steel. Most recently installed piping water and gas systems in the world are made of thermoplastic…
Magnesium alloys have generated renewed interest as a light alloys; replacing some conventional structural materials for weight reduction in applications like aerospace, automotive and electronics industries. In interior components and…
The present paper proposes a strength model for unidirectional composites with Lin/Epoxy. The model assumes that, a central core of broken fibers flanked by unbroken fibers which are subject to stress concentrations from the broken fibers.…
