Semi–empirical notch sensitivity factors q have been widely used to properly account for notch effects in fatigue design for a long time. However, the intrinsically empirical nature of this old concept can be avoided by modeling it using…
Machining with a cutting edge with extensive damage or a fractured cutting edge significantly influences the machining performance. Therefore, investigations on tool wear behavior, their forms, and wear mechanisms will be very helpful in…
In this study, experimental and numerical results of compact tension shear (CTS) specimen and a new specimen type under in-plane mixed mode (Mode-I/II) loading conditions are compared with existing inplane mixed mode fracture criteria to…
In this research, the variational mode decomposition (VMD) method is used for the drive-by health monitoring of bridges. Firstly, the problem of a half-trailer tractor moving over a bridge is formulated. Next, a Finite Element (FE) code is…
The presence of notches and other stress concentrations in turbine blades and other notch hydraulic components is a current problem in engineering. It causes a reduction of endurance limit of material. In that sense, specimens of the ASTM…
Within the framework of a geomechanical model that describes the deformation of a rock mass during the subhorizontal coal-bed extraction, the mechanism for the formation and implementation of a sudden outburst is substantiated: as working…
The present study develops a knowledge-based machine learning framework for estimating the fatigue life of Al alloy using a combination of data-driven models and an empirical equation. Three different ML models were developed and tested…
Multiaxial fatigue is a challenging problem and, consequently, a number of methods has been developed to aid in design of components and assemblies. Following the complexity of the problem, these approaches are often elaborate and it is…
In this article, the characteristic curves of microindentation measured on Cu99 were analyzed on the basis of the analytical expression proposed by Habibi et al. (J. Mater. Res, 2021, 36 (15): 3074-3085). It was found that the ratio of the…
Our research described in this paper focused on fabricating and characterising polylactic acid (PLA) composites reinforced with randomly dispersed boron nitride nanoplatelets (BNNP). The integrated experimental analysis with the Finite…
The main purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of the critical plane orientation on the estimated fatigue strength of metals under multiaxial loading. The algorithm employed to evaluate fatigue strength implements the criterion…
Columns of mixed soil-sand-cement (CSV), is one of the most unknown used methods for soft soil stabilization that has not been studied before. To this end, in this paper, consolidated drained (CD) triaxial compression tests after have been…
Most seismic design codes provide formulas for estimating base shear and lateral loads. To determine lateral loads, the building's fundamental vibration period must be calculated, either theoretically or experimentally. However, there is…
Presence of cracks in mechanical components needs much attention, where the stress field is affected by cracks and the propagation of cracks may be occurred causing the damage. The objective of this paper is to present an investigation of…
With the introduction of new materials and advances in medical science, the endodontic files have changed since the early days of root canal treatments. In the late days, we have seen an increasing use of Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) alloys, to…
The paper presents the results of comparative studies of short-term creep in tensile tests of the VT1-0 commercially pure titanium (analogue Grade 2 according to ASTM A485) and the VT5-1 alloy (analogue Grade 6 according to ASTM B265) in…
The Compact Tension Shear (CTS) specimen is used to study fracture and fatigue under mixed mode I/II loading conditions. Existing K solution was developed for fracture studies and it does not consider the effect of crack deflection. The…
Nowadays, an increasing number of oil and gas transmission pipes are constructed with high-strength low alloy steels (HSLA); however, many of these pipelines suffer from different types of hydrogen damages, such as hydrogen-induced…
Concrete completely submerged in sulfate solutions has been used as the primary study subject for the durability of concrete subjected to sulfates. On the other hand, empirical data from the field indicates that concrete exposed to…
