The Bartolomeo Colleoni monument suffered for years damage from the local climate. The process of restoring the Colleoni equestrian statue, started in 2003, allowed to understand how the bronze statue was originally cast and manufactured…
Crack closure concept has been widely used to explain different issues of fatigue crack propagation. However, different authors have questioned the relevance of crack closure and have proposed alternative concepts. The main objective here…
It is generally accepted that fatigue crack growth is retarded after an overload, which has been explained either by plasticity-induced crack closure or near-tip residual stress. However, any interpretation of overload effect is…
On the mode O existence in three-dimensional plates weakened by circular and elliptical holes under mode II loading It is known for long time that in a cracked plate subjected to anti-symmetric plane loading, the Poisson’s effect leads to…
Fatigue crack growth (FCG) is associated with irreversible and non-linear processes happening at the crack tip. This explains different problems observed in the use of da/dN-?K curves, namely the inability to explain stress ratio and load…
Fatigue fracture surfaces of Al-based alloys with fatigue striations pattern and such wear debris pattern as spherical particles were investigated fractographically, on the bases of the OG’e spectroscopic analysis. The sequence of events…
Adding fibres to concrete provides several advantages, especially in terms of controlling the crack opening width and propagation after the cracking onset. However, distribution and orientation of the fibres toward the active crack plane…
Crack propagation simulation began with the development of the finite element method; the analyses were conducted to obtain a basic understanding of the crack growth. Today structural and materials engineers develop structures and…
The subject for studies is an aluminium cylindrical hollow specimen with external axial and part circumferential semi-elliptical surface crack undergoing fatigue loads. Both the optical microscope measurements and the crack opening…
Steel fiber reinforced concrete is potentially very promising material with unique properties, which currently is widely used in some applications, such as floors and concrete pavements. However, lack of robust and reliable models of fiber…
This study aims to evaluate the effect of various parameters on the behavior of the reinforced concrete flat slabs and the contribution of each design element in the punching shear strength. This research presents experimental results of…
In the past two decades, crack-tip mechanics has been increasingly studied with full-field techniques. Within these techniques, Digital Image Correlation (DIC) has been most widely used due to its many advantages, to extract important…
In this paper, the attention is paid to investigation of the importance of the interfacial transition zone (ITZ) in selected fine-grained cement-based composites for the global fracture behaviour. This is a region of cement paste around…
Most mechanical components experience multi-axial cyclic loading conditions during service. Experimental analysis of fatigue cracks under such conditions is not easy and most works tend to focus more on the simpler but less realistic case…
Multi-cluster staged fracturing technology is an effective measure to stimulate the reservoir properties. However, the inter-cluster interference effect is obvious when the cluster spacing is very narrow, which seriously affects the effect…
An experimental investigation of the mechanical and fracture characteristics of Portland limestone and Corsehill sandstone is undertaken, aiming at enhancing understanding of the structural behaviour of these natural building stones…
In this paper, the macro and micro-mechanical fracture behavior was studied for aluminum (Al6061) alloy matrix, reinforced with various proportions of TiC particles such as 3wt%, 5wt% and 7wt%. The Al6061-TiC metal matrix composites were…
In the current work an experimental study of the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) is performed to evaluate the ability of this parameter to characterise fatigue crack growth. A methodology is developed to measure and to analyse the…
Fatigue crack growth (FCG) is linked to irreversible and non-linear processes happening at the crack tip, which explains different problems observed in the use of da/dN-DK curves. The replacement of DK by non-linear crack tip parameters…
The detachment plates 2024T3 by an Araldite adhesive is studied in this work by using the finite element method to predict the damage in traction and compression behavior under the effect of geometrical parameters such as the lap length…
The present paper investigates the multiaxial fatigue strength of sharp V-notched components made of titanium grade 5 alloy (Ti-6Al-4V). Axisymmetric notched specimens have been tested under combined tension and torsion fatigue loadings…
Localized displacement measurements based on electronic speckle-pattern interferometry are used to obtain crack mouth opening displacement (CMOD), stress intensity factor (SIF) and T-stress values during crack growth around cold-expanded…
This work constitutes a contribution to the analysis of the behavior of beams reinforced by composite materials. The analysis was made by a study on concrete elements, and in pre-cracked reinforced concrete then reinforced with carbon…
The current work presents an experimental study on the use of the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) to evaluate its ability to characterise fatigue crack growth. A methodology is developed to measure and to analyse the CTOD from…
