Fretting fatigue experiments aim to represent industrial problems and most of them endure variable loading. Being able to assess lifetime of assemblies, especially for low propagation rate conditions, is essential as experimental…
In this paper a methodology for evaluating crack initiation under biaxial conditions is presented. The methodology consists of evaluating the crack length automatically with digital processing of highmagnification images of the crack. The…
Multiaxial fatigue behavior is an important topic in critical structural components. In the present study the biaxial-planar fatigue behavior of a powder metallurgical TRIP steel (Transformation Induced Plasticity) was studied by taking…
The Bartolomeo Colleoni monument suffered for years damage from the local climate. The process of restoring the Colleoni equestrian statue, started in 2003, allowed to understand how the bronze statue was originally cast and manufactured…
Symmetric fatigue in two spring steels is investigated in three groups of specimens. One of the groups (Steel EN10270-1SH/ DIN 17223C – C 0.82%, Mn 0.76%, Si 0.26%) has experienced rotating-bending fatigue in air, and the other two groups…
Fatigue cracking of longerons manufactured from Al-alloy AVT-1 for helicopter in-service rotorblades was considered and crack growth period and equivalent of tensile stress for different blade sections were estimated. Complicated case of…
Fatigue (high- and gigacycle) crack initiation and its propagation in titanium alloys with coarse and fine grain structure are studied by fractography analysis of fracture surface. Fractured specimens were analyzed by interferometer…
The direct identification of the cohesive law in pure mode I of Pinus pinaster is addressed. The approach couples the double cantilever beam (DCB) test with digital image correlation (DIC). Wooden beam specimens loaded in the…
The initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks during cyclic torsion loading was studied in a cast Al alloy (A357) with a relatively large (~500 ?m) grain size. 2D observations, revealed that multi site crack initiation occur on the…
This paper attempts to disclose the damage mechanism of reinforced concrete plate-column structure under room temperature and fire. Several tests were carried out to record the law of crack development on the plate surface under room…
The monitoring of a heat dissipation process can give an important information about kinetics of deformation process and current crack propagation rate. The work is devoted to the theoretical and experimental study of the problem. The…
This paper presents a simple experimental procedure that greatly facilitates the use of digital image correlation (DIC) techniques in fatigue test conducted in resonant testing machines, without the need of test interruptions. This is…
The study presents and compares an application of two procedures to identify the crack tip location in PVC Sent samples under a uniaxial tensile test based on the image processing method. An IDS camera captures several photos of the PVC…
While Additive Manufacturing (AM) of polymers has matured from rapid prototyping to functional production, the layer-wise fabrication process introduces significant mechanical anisotropy and microstructural heterogeneity, which complicates…
The use of miniaturized specimen testing methods is a promising way to solve the problem of limited materials in RPV monitoring programs. The use of miniature specimens allows the evaluation of fracture toughness from other specimen…
Fatigue cracking of longerons manufactured from Al-alloy AVT-1 for helicopter in-service rotor-blades was considered and crack growth period and equivalent of tensile stress for different blade sections were estimated. Complicated case of…
The paper presents the results of experimental and theoretical investigations of the mechanisms of crack formation in reinforced concrete beams subjected to quasi-static bending. The boundary-value problem has been formulated in the…
