In this work, Cohesive Zone Modelling (CZM) was used to simulate failure of T-peel bonded joints with 1.5mm thick adherends, respectively, bonded toghether with Loctite Multibond 330 adhesive. The fracture toughness and load-opening…
Fracture behavior of adhesive joints is an important topic in structural design of new structural elements or in retrofitting of existing ones. The mechanical models available in literature capable of predicting the failure mode of these…
In the design of adhesive structures, it is extremely important to accurately predict their strength and fracture properties (critical strain energy release rate in tension, GIC, and shear, GIIC). In most cases, the loads occur in…
The presence of a geometric discontinuity such as a crack or a notch can cause the failure of a structure during its use. Under various mechanical or thermal stresses, a high concentration of stresses can take place at the level of these…
In this paper, the phenomenon of intergranular fracture in polycrystalline materials is investigated using a nonlinear fracture mechanics approach. The nonlocal cohesive zone model (CZM) for finite thickness interfaces recently proposed by…
A straightforward methodology for modelling the cohesive zone (CZM) of an adhesively bonded joint is developed, by using a commercial finite element code and experimental outcomes from standard fracture tests, without defining a damage law…
The escalating importance of lightweight design in engineering demands innovative strategies to tackle this challenge. Traditionally, the joining of these materials involves rivets, bolts, or adhesives. However, contemporary manufacturing…
The present work aims to model the fracture mechanical behavior of a high-strength low carbon steel, AISI 4130 operating in hydrogen contaminated environment. The study deals with the development of 2D finite element cohesive zone model…
Near surface mounted technique become the most attractive technique for strengthening RC structures. Several researches had been conducted to study experimentally the flexural behavior of RC members strengthened with NSM technique unlike…
The detachment plates 2024T3 by an Araldite adhesive is studied in this work by using the finite element method to predict the damage in traction and compression behavior under the effect of geometrical parameters such as the lap length…
This paper presents a refined Finite Element (FE) modeling strategy for analyzing the failure behavior of regular masonry structures reinforced with timber-based retrofit solutions. The proposed model schematizes the masonry as brick…
Understanding the failure modes of damaged or cracked structures and repaired by bonding a composite patch is an essential point to improve its resistance to failure and subsequently extend its service life. In the present study, a 3D…
