Through this study, a numerical simulation based on 3D in order to investigate the effect of Crack-front shape on the stress intensity factor and fatigue crack growth behavior of center cracked aluminum plate repaired asymmetrically with a…
The main aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of a composite repair system in severely corroded circumferential welds in super duplex stainless steel pipes as a preventive measure against the premature corrosion damage at the…
Nanostructured adhesives may be defined as those materials whose elements imbedded in an epoxy matrix have dimensions in the 1 to 100 nm range. One of the most interesting aspects of ceramic nanoparticles is that their mechanical…
We analyse the problem of a simply supported beam, strengthened with a fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) strip bonded to its intrados and subjected to bending couples applied to its end sections. A mechanical model is proposed, whereby the…
The delamination fracture in four-point bending beams made of adhesively bonded lengthwise vertical layers is studied assuming that each layer exhibits smooth material inhomogeneity along the width and length of the layer. The study aims…
This work constitutes a contribution to the analysis of the behavior of beams reinforced by composite materials. The analysis was made by a study on concrete elements, and in pre-cracked reinforced concrete then reinforced with carbon…
This study experimentally investigates the tensile and bond performance of novel GFRP–SSWM hybrid wraps developed using two epoxy adhesives - Sikadur 30 LP and Sikadur 330. A total of 42 coupon specimens for tensile testing and 48 dumbbell…
In this study, the three-dimensional finite element method is used to analyze an API 5L X70 steel cylindrical pipeline subjected to an internal pressure load by calculating the stress intensity factors and the integral J at the peak of…
The use of reinforcements in adhesive joints makes the stress distribution more uniform, improving their mechanical performance and adhesion. The present paper aims to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the insertion of nylon 6…
This paper presents an experimental and numerical characterization, typical for adhesive aerospace applications. The task is carrying two steps. The first consists on the analysis of a single lap joint produced by a carbon fiber fabric…
C Composite materials are most often used for lengthier and thin structures susceptible to buckle. The optimization is often carried out taking into consideration the resistance to buckling and tensile loads for minimum displacement i.e…
Natural stone is a material that presents durableness over time and high aesthetic characteristic, but it is brittle and its tensile strength is significantly lower than compressive one: these peculiarities must be taken into account for…
This paper aims to analyze the multi-effects of the glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite patch to repair the inclined cracked 2420-T3 aluminum plate. Three-dimensional finite element method (FEM) was used to study the effect of…
The use of adhesive bonds greatly increased in industrial applications, as they have multiple advantages compared to other more traditional bonding methods (fastened, welded and riveted joints). The number of approaches to predict the…
Steel-concrete joints are often made by welded shear studs. However, this connection reduces the fatigue strength, especially in situations where locally concentrated loads occur with a large number of load cycles e.g. in bridge decks. In…
In this paper, fatigue crack growth of edge crack in 2024 T351 aluminum alloy plate repaired with bonded composite patch under constant and variable amplitude loading (VAL) was predicted. The Al-alloy plate was repaired with symmetric…
