Bolted joints are the most common solution for joining composite components in aerospace structures. Critical structures such as wing to fuselage joints, or flight control surface fittings use bolted joining techniques. Recent research…
The paper focuses on the effective resistance and the near-threshold growth mechanisms in the ferritic-pearlitic and the pure pearlitic steel. The influence of microstructure on the shear-mode fatigue crack growth is divided here into two…
The torsional fatigue behaviour of circumferentially notched specimens made of austenitic stainless steel, SUS316L, and carbon steel, SGV410, characterized by different notch root radii has been recently investigated by Tanaka. In that…
Fatigue lifetime assessment is essential in the design of structures. Under-estimated predictions may result in unnecessary in service inspections. Conversely, over-estimated predictions may have serious consequences on the integrity of…
This work aims at studying the creep behaviour of 15-15Ti(Si) austenitic steel, under uniaxial stress (range of 300-560 MPa), and its interaction with liquid lead. The steel was tested to verify its sensitivity to Liquid Metal…
Duplex stainless steels are widely used in industry. This is due to their higher strength compared to austenitic steels and to their higher toughness than ferritic steels. They also have good weldability and high resistance to stress…
The purpose of this work is to validate the N-SIF, SED and ENS approaches for the fatigue design of austenitic stainless steel welded joints. Literature fatigue data for cruciform welded joints, originally expressed in terms of nominal…
Cyclic stress-strain response and fatigue damage character has been investigated in austenitic stainless steel 316L. Hollow cylindrical specimens have been cyclically deformed in combined tension-compression and torsion under constant…
Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) is important in those manufacturing where it is significant to control the mechanical and metallurgical characteristics and its weld bead geometry. This work has been committed to study the influence of…
The current energy policy envisages extended lifetime for the current nuclear power plants (GEN II NPP). This policy imposes a large research effort to understand the ageing of power plant components. In this goal, it is necessary to…
Austenitic stainless steel (JIS-SUS304L) with a bimodal harmonic structure, which is defined as a coarse-grained structure surrounded by a network of fine grains, was fabricated using powder metallurgy to improve both the strength and…
In questo lavoro è stato studiato l'effetto di modeste differenze nel contenuto di carbonio e di azoto sulla deformazione e il comportamento a frattura a temperatura ambiente di un acciaio inossidabile austenitico AISI 304. Nell'acciaio…
The paper presents a study of the application of Leak-Before- Break (LBB) concept in a relatively small-diameter high energy reactor coolant line, where it is proposed type AISI 316LN to be used as base material welded with type AISI 316L…
Deep drawing of stainless steels thin sheets is a cold forming process used to produce components with complex geometries at limited costs. Although it seems a simple shaping technique, this technology requires a high level of know-how…
Deep drawing of sheet metal is a crucial industrial process due to its high productivity and low cost per unit produced. Stainless steels are ideal for this process, given their high deformability compared to other steels. Despite its…
Prediction of cyclic life under low cycle fatigue - high cycle fatigue (LCF-HCF) interaction is of paramount importance in the context of structural integrity of components in the primary side of fast reactors where such damage under…
