The most important performance for repair materials is adhesion to the substrate. The authors experimentally find out that high modulus fine aggregates in repair material enhance strength of it as well as the strength of the interface…
A recently proposed cohesive-zone model which effectively combines damage, friction and mechanical interlocking has been revisited and further validated by numerically simulating the pull-out test, from a concrete block, of a ribbed steel…
This paper discusses the effect of different surface treatments on shape memory alloy wires embedded in PolyEster (PE) and VinylEster (VE) polymeric matrices. In particular, two types of chemical etching and a chemical bonding with a…
The paper presents the results of computer simulation of a hybrid removable complete dentures (RCD) of a maxilla and analysis of its stress–strain states (SSSs) under typical operational loads. For improving their strength and stiffness…
The benefits of resins nano-enhanced on the impact response of sandwich composites made by fiber glass/epoxy skins and balsa wood core were studied. Afterwards, the influence of the core's discontinuity was analyzed in terms of impact…
Chemical reactions between carbon steel, water and chemical species produce corrosion layers (scales) on the internal surface of pipelines transporting hydrocarbons. Scales act as a diffusion barrier and prevent the progress of corrosion…
Machining with a cutting edge with extensive damage or a fractured cutting edge significantly influences the machining performance. Therefore, investigations on tool wear behavior, their forms, and wear mechanisms will be very helpful in…
Biodegradable stents are attracting the attention of many researchers in biomedical and materials research fields since they can absolve their specific function for the expected period of time and then gradually disappear. This feature…
In this study, in order to evaluate the effects of heavy vacuum slops (H.V.S) as rejuvenator and nano-Zycosil as an anti-stripping agent on used encapsulation method and mechanical performance of asphalt mixture samples, scanning electron…
The usage of rebars in construction is the most common method for reinforcing plain concrete and thus bridging the tensile stresses along the concrete crack surfaces. Usually design codes for modelling the bond behaviour of rebars and…
There are deficiencies associated with cold mix asphalts, specifically, cold recycled mix asphalts in comparison with hot mix asphalt or hot recycled mix asphalt such as higher moisture susceptibility. Moisture damage of asphalt mixtures…
In this work, the microstructural evolution, surface characteristics and wear behavior of high hardness AISI 440C samples coated with a TiN film synthesized at room temperature were investigated. The coating was deposited using a combined…
FML (Fibre Metal Laminate) is a hybrid material that presents outstanding structural properties, such as resistance to cyclic and dynamic loads, together with low specific weight. This material consists of metal sheets alternating to…
The research addresses evaluation of stress-strain state (SSS) in the “zygomatic bones–implants–denture base” system by varying the type and number of the zygomatic implants, as well as applying loads. The load magnitude was varied over a…
In this study, the relationships between processing, structure and properties of self-reinforced ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) composites fabricated via thermal pressing are investigated. By systematically varying…
Industry needs new materials that present very high structural characteristic, such as high strength, low weight and high damage tolerance. To obtain these characteristics a new class of materials has been introduced: Fibre Metal Laminate…
Research in innovative construction materials has focused on utilising supplementary materials in cementitious composites to promote sustainable development and reduce CO2 emissions. Within this context, this study aims to investigate the…
Enhancing the machinability of difficult-to-cut materials is imperative, and a non-conventional rotary tool has shown high potential when machining these materials. This work comparatively evaluates the tool wear of conventional round…
Welding is a technique of fusion joining the material involving a process of inter-molecular diffusion adhesion. Polymer welding is an assembly method among several known assembly techniques such as gluing. This welding process applies to…
The paper studies the adhesive strength of aluminum alloy specimens bonded with the use of an epoxy adhesive, under the tensile-shear stress state, depending on the testing temperature. Tension of modified Arcan specimens with load angles…
This research addresses environmental concerns by exploring environmentally friendly composite materials as substitutes for non-biodegradable synthetic fibers. The study proposes the development of polymer matrix composites reinforced with…
The use of reinforcements in adhesive joints makes the stress distribution more uniform, improving their mechanical performance and adhesion. The present paper aims to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the insertion of nylon 6…
Designing tooling and cooling systems to prevent cutting tool damage is crucial while machining difficult-to-cut nickel alloys. This study investigates the machining effects during turning Inconel 718 using unitary aluminum oxide (Al2O3)…
The focus of this research was to investigate the effects of carbon nanofiber (CNF) reinforcement on the mechanical performance, interfacial characteristics, and abrasive wear behavior of short glass fiber/polyphenylene sulfide (GF/PPS)…
In this study, ultrasonic welding (USW) of lap joints of polyetherimide (PEI) plates (adherends) with carbon fiber (CF) prepregs impregnated with PEI was investigated. No energy director (ED) was used, so binder contents were varied in the…
