Results of a double-shear single-dowel wood connection tested under monotonic quasi-static compression loading are presented and discussed in this paper. The wood used in this study was a pine wood, namely the Pinus pinaster species, which…
Bamboo and wood are the most widely applied and the oldest natural structural materials in the world. Currently, worldwide output of wooden material is 1 billion ton, almost the same as steel. Most of them are used as structure, such as…
The mixed mode loading configuration occurs in many civil engineering and mechanical applications. In wood material, the study of this problem is very important due to the orthotropic character and the heterogeneity of the material. In…
Haimenkou site is the largest railing-enclosed wooden architecture settlement site on the waterfront in current China. This research conducts degradation assessment of waterlogged wood at Haimenkou site with various methods, including…
Shear strength is one of the properties often used to qualify a wood species for use in industry. But until now there is no standardized test which allows understanding this phenomenon. This paper constitutes a new approach to study the…
The benefits of resins nano-enhanced on the impact response of sandwich composites made by fiber glass/epoxy skins and balsa wood core were studied. Afterwards, the influence of the core's discontinuity was analyzed in terms of impact…
Wood is an orthotropic material used since ancient time. A literature research about the mechanical properties of density, fracture toughness, modulus of elasticity, and Poisson’s ratio has been done to have a broader view on the subject.…
This paper presents numerical models of a 3D printed plastic joint applicable to the connection of wooden structures. The research presented provides a comparison of two alternative solutions for the geometry of the joint and results from…
This study investigates the modification of epoxy resins with pyrolysis bio-oils derived from plant waste, aiming to enhance mechanical performance. A method for epoxy resin modification using bio-oil is proposed, including techniques for…
The paper describes the results of an experimental study of a polyurethane material treated by ion implantation technology. The problems of crack growth in the near-surface layer carbonized by ion treatment were investigated using digital…
Particleboard (PB) are wood-based composites with fine wood fibers bound together by a small amount of polymeric adhesive, widely used in furniture industry and civil engineering. PB plates can be painted, laminated or veneered, and have…
The indentation response of a pseudoelastic nickel-titanium based shape memory alloy (SMA) has been analyzed. Indentation tests have been carried out at room temperature using a spherical diamond tip and indentation loads in the range…
