In recent years, very-high-cycle fatigue (VHCF) behavior of metallic materials has become a major point of interest for researchers and industries. The needs of specific industrial fields (aerospace, mechanical and energy industry) for…
The simulation of critical and subcritical crack propagation in heterogeneous materials is not a simple problem in computational mechanics. These topics can be studied with different theoretical tools. In the crack propagation problem it…
A probabilistic methodology is proposed to evaluate fatigue damage accumulation and fatigue lives of specimens under variable amplitude loading. With probabilistic modifications in the present model, the calculative consistency is achieved…
Structural components made of fibre-reinforced materials are frequently used in engineering applications. Fibre-reinforced composites are multiphase materials, and complex mechanical phenomena take place at limit conditions but also during…
Among the most promising models introduced in recent years, with which it is possible to obtain very useful results for a better understanding of the physical phenomena involved in the macroscopic mechanism of crack propagation, the one…
Additive manufacturing is extensively used for the production of complex-shaped parts from metals and polymers. Because of the influence of various physical factors, the structure of materials processed under different processing…
The work is devoted to the study of the damage accumulation in iron under gigacyclic fatigue (VHCF) regime. The study of the mechanical properties of the samples with different state of life time existing was carried out on the base of the…
During manufacturing of parts from metals and alloys through forming and subsequent thermal and mechanical treatments the materials are often subjected to complex loading. In such cases materials significantly change their structure, which…
Weld start and end points are fatigue failure sensitive locations. Their fatigue behaviour especially in thin sheet structures under multiaxial load conditions is not sufficiently explored so far. Therefore, a research project was…
Durability deterioration of structure is a highly random process. The maintenance of degenerated structure involves the calculation of the reliability of time-dependent structure. This study introduced reinforced concrete structure…
Statistical Fracture Mechanics, formalism of few natural ideas is applied to simulation of cracktrajectories in brittle material. The “diffusion approximation” of the crack diffusion model represents cracktrajectories as a one-dimensional…
The structural integrity and reliability of glass components are key issues for concentrated solar power (CSP) systems. For example, the glass windows in a solar furnace may suffer catastrophic fracture due to thermal and structural…
This paper presents a novel modification of the multilevel statistical model for describing the subgrain boundary migration that can explicitly account for the topology of subgrain structures in the form of Laguerre polyhedra. The…
This work is dedicated to the development of a fracture model for an elastic-brittle solid with statistically distributed strength characteristics of subregions and the application of this model to describe fracture processes of bodies…

Deep drawing of sheet metal is a crucial industrial process due to its high productivity and low cost per unit produced. Stainless steels are ideal for this process, given their high deformability compared to other steels. Despite its…
Limit equilibrium engineering analysis needs the incorporation of probabilistic approaches for the determination of soil strength statistical measures for deterministic and probabilistic analyses. For the commonly used Mohr–Coulomb…
In this paper, a first insight into the role that non-conventional structural patterns might play in the design of tall buildings is presented. The idea is to explore the mechanical properties of selected non-conventional structural…
Crack formation in hemispherical domes is a distinguished problem in structural mechanics. The safety of cracked domes has a long track record; the evolution of the cracking pattern received less attention. Here, we report…
The article describes a method for assessing the strength reliability of high-temperature heat exchangers with service life of several tens of thousands of hours at the design stage, when there is not enough statistical data on the…
This paper presents a novel method of assessing structural damage in beams exposed to moving loads via acceleration signals through experimental studies. In this study, beams are supported on both ends, and their dynamic response to moving…
This paper presents the development of the multiple linear regression approach based on the stress ratio and applied load that was assessed using entropy generation. The energy dissipation is associated with material degradation to…
