Fatigue design is of vital importance to avoid fatigue small crack growth in engineering structures. This study shows that the critical fatigue design stress can be defined below the usual endurance limit, considered in rules and codes.…
Axles and shafts are of prime importance concerning safety in the transportation industry and railway in particular. Design rules for axles and shafts are mainly based on endurance curves for the material used according to the established…
For multiaxially-loaded parts several stress-based fatigue assessment concepts are applicable mostly taking uniaxial test results as basis. These approaches work well in case of proportional loading states, but on contrary, for…
To substitute for a traditional replication technique, an in-situ fatigue crack observing system for rotating bending testing machine has been newly developed. For verifying performance of this observing system, fatigue tests were carried…
The fatigue behavior of carburized components such as automotive transmission gears is very complex due to hardness and microstructure difference, residual stresses and multi-axial stress states developed between the case and the core. In…
The effects of large amounts of hydrogen on the fatigue crack growth properties of torsional prestrained ferritic–pearlitic low-carbon steel were investigated. Hydrogen-precharged specimens were produced by conducting cathodic charge to…
The present study aims to develop an algorithm able to predict the fatigue lifetime of nitrided steels. Linear multi-axial fatigue criteria are used to take into account the gradients of mechanical properties provided by the nitriding…
This study reports an experimental investigation of the fatigue and fracture resistance of R350HT, a heat-treated pearlitic rail steel with refined microstructure used in rails. Monotonic tensile, rotating bending, linear elastic plane…
Three stainless steels – ASTM 304, 316 and 316L - used in hydrogen utilization equipment are under investigation at conditions of tension-compression, rotating-bending and fretting fatigue. Fatigue tests are carried out with hydrogen…
In this work the design and the technical characteristic of a Moore rotating bending machine are presented. The machine has been realized at the University of Cassino in order to run tests on multiple specimens at different temperature.…
This paper deals with the fatigue assessment of cast steel defects in terms of macroscopic shrinkage porosity. Within preliminary studies, a generalized Kitagawa diagram GKD was established by numerical analyses of V-notched specimens with…
