Fatigue characterization of a crankshaft steel: Use and interaction of new models

Sergio Blasón, Cristina Rodríguez, Alfonso Fernández-Canteli

The peculiar geometrical shape and working conditions of crankshafts make fatigue becoming responsible for most of the failure cases in such components. Therefore, improvement of crankshaft performance requires enhancing its fatigue life.…

Fatigue behavior of lubricated Ni-Ti endodontic rotary instruments

A. Brotzu, F. Felli, C. Lupi, C. Vendittozzi, E. Fantini

The use of Ni-Ti alloys in the practice of endodontic comes from their important properties such as shape memory and superelasticity phenomena, good corrosion resistance and high compatibility with biological tissues. In the last twenty…

Resilience and ductility of Oxy-fuel HAZ cut

A. Martín-Meizoso, J. Aldazabal, J.L. Pedrejón, S. Moreno

Cutting processes affect the material to a deeper or shallower attached-to-the-cut zone. Its microstructure, its hardness and mechanical properties are changed. Also the cutting process introduces surface roughness and residual stresses.…

Damage tolerance analysis of aircraft reinforced panels

F. Carta, A. Pirondi

This work is aimed at reproducing numerically a campaign of experimental tests performed for the development of reinforced panels, typically found in aircraft fuselage. The bonded reinforcements can significantly reduce the rate of fatigue…

Controlling fatigue crack paths for crack surface marking and growth investigations

S. Barter, P. White, M. Burchill

While it is well known that fatigue crack growth in metals that display confined slip, such as high strength aluminium alloys, develop crack paths that are responsive to the loading direction and the local microstructural orientation, it…

Implementation of a damage model in a finite element program for computation of structures under dynamic loading

Nasserdine Oudni, Youcef Bouafia

This work is a numerical simulation of nonlinear problems of the damage process and fracture of quasi-brittle materials especially concrete. In this study, we model the macroscopic behavior of concrete material, taking into account the…
