The effects of large amounts of hydrogen on the fatigue crack growth properties of torsional prestrained ferritic–pearlitic low-carbon steel were investigated. Hydrogen-precharged specimens were produced by conducting cathodic charge to…
Multiaxial fatigue behavior is an important topic in critical structural components. In the present study the biaxial-planar fatigue behavior of a powder metallurgical TRIP steel (Transformation Induced Plasticity) was studied by taking…
Most of the prior studies on the prediction of fatigue lives have been limited to uniaxial loading cases, whereas real world loading scenarios are often multiaxial, and the prediction of fatigue life based upon uniaxial fatigue properties…
Sensitivity to small defects under torsional fatigue loading condition is examined in the high cycle fatigue regime. Fatigue crack initiation and small crack growth behaviors were observed during fatigue testing and fractographic…
The torsional fatigue behaviour of circumferentially notched specimens made of austenitic stainless steel, SUS316L, and carbon steel, SGV410, characterized by different notch root radii has been recently investigated by Tanaka. In that…
The very high cycle region of the S-N fatigue curve has been the subject of intensive research on the last years, with special focus on axial, bending, torsional and fretting fatigue tests. Very high cycle fatigue can be achieved using…
This work deals with the notch sensitivity of sharp notches under multi-axial fatigue loading. The main discussion concerns the differences in notch sensitivity at high cycle fatigue regime, between tensile, torsional and combined loading.…
The aim of the present research is to check the accuracy of the Modified Wöhler Curve Method (MWCM) in estimating the fatigue strength of friction stir (FS) welded tubular joints of Al 6082-T6 subjected to in-phase and out-of-phase…
AISI 304L stainless steel specimens have been tested in fatigue. The tests were axial, torsional and in-phase biaxial, all of them under load control and R=-1. The S-N curves were built following the ASTM E739 standard and the method of…
Multiaxial high cycle fatigue is a topic that concerns nearly all industrial domains. In recent years, a great deal of recommendations how to address problems with multiaxial fatigue life time estimation have been made and a huge progress…
The fatigue behavior of carburized components such as automotive transmission gears is very complex due to hardness and microstructure difference, residual stresses and multi-axial stress states developed between the case and the core. In…
Fatigue life tests under constant and variable amplitude loadings were performed on the tube-tube thin-walled welded specimens made of magnesium (AZ31 and AZ61) alloys. The tests included pure axial, pure torsional and combined in-phase…
An edge crack propagation in a steel bar of circular cross-section undergoing multiaxial fatigue loads is simulated by Finite Element Method (FEM). The variation of crack growth behaviour is studied under axial and combined in phase…
In this paper a methodology for evaluating crack initiation under biaxial conditions is presented. The methodology consists of evaluating the crack length automatically with digital processing of highmagnification images of the crack. The…
The work reports the observed fatigue damage of C45 steel specimens tested in a previous work under multiaxial loading conditions and its relationship with the thermal energy dissipation which has been used in the last decades to estimate…
The present paper investigates the accuracy of the Modified Wöhler Curve Method (MWCM) in estimating multiaxial fatigue strength of aluminium friction stir (FS) welded joints. Having developed a bespoke joining technology…
High cycle fatigue tests were conducted for stainless steel AISI 304L. The geometry was a thin walled tube with a passing through hole. The tests were axial, torsional and in-phase axial-torsional, all of them under load control with R =…
Axial alternating fatigue tests with superimposed static torsional mean stress and shear alternating fatigue tests with superimposed static tensile mean stress are represented. A decrease in the fatigue life of the material was observed…
The joining of machine parts by plastic forming is a common method for transmitting forces and torque. In drive trains, the ‘knurled interference fit’ has a high transmission capacity through the combination of frictional connection and…
A series of cyclic tension-torsion tests under symmetric shear strain and asymmetric axial stress control in various loading paths are conducted on 100 ?m-diameter 316L steel wires applying a micro tensiontorsion fatigue testing apparatus.…
