The present work has investigated the fracture toughness of a model DGEBA epoxy system subject to Hidro-Thermal aging. A Photoelastic Stress Analysis technique has been implemented, showing the evolution of stresses arising throughout the…
The aim of this work is a review of scientific results in the literature, related to the application of thermographic techniques to composite materials. Thermography is the analysis of the surface temperature of a body by infrared rays…
This study develops stress intensity factor (SIF) solutions for cladded WWER reactor pressure vessel nozzles subjected to pressurised thermal shock loading. Although finite element analysis is widely used for fracture assessment…
Static traction tests on material samples for mechanical constructions have pointed out the loss of linearity of the specimen surface temperature with the applied load. This phenomenon is due to the heat generation caused by the local…
In this paper thermal analysis was applied to determine the “Critical Stress” of concrete, different from its ultimate strength, able to produce the first damage in the structures under compressive loads. The Critical Stress can be thought…
The purpose of this study was to explore the changes of mechanical and physical properties of granite under different thermal loading effects. Uniaxial compression experiments studying the rules of the influence of temperature load on…
The Static Thermographic Method (STM) involves analyzing the thermal behavior of a specimen subjected to a quasi-static tensile test. The temperature trend, measured by an infrared camera, follows three phases where the first and second…
During a ferry flight, in a standard operation condition and at cruising level, a military cargo experienced a double hydraulic system failure due to a structural damage of the dual booster actuator. The booster actuator is the main…
Two parallel comparative ‘Conventional Method and Computer Simulation using ANSYS software’ for prediction of crack growth and its behavior in optical fiber are studied and presented in this work. Corresponding finite element analysis was…
This paper aims to illustrate the use of infrared thermography as a non-destructive and non-contact technique to observe the phenomenological manifestation of damage in granite under unconfined compression. It allows records and…
During the braking phase, the heat produced by friction between pads and disc cannot be entirely dissipated. Consequently, the brake disc, especially if very hard braking occur, can accumulate large amounts of heat in a short time so…
Ultrasonic fatigue tests were carried out on stainless steel AISI 316 and 304, under two modalities: at room temperature and in immersion (water for 316 and antifreeze for 304 steels); all tests were carried out with a loading ratio R=-1.…
Crack initiation and propagation have been investigated on the polymeric material ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), under ultrasonic fatigue testing. Three controlled actions were implemented in order to carry out fatigue tests at…
An experimental technique is presented to evaluate mechanical and thermal load-induced microstructural damage, based on the Electron Probe Micro-Analysis (EPMA) principle, by which certain analytical potentialities of Scanning Electron…
A durability method in view of cathodic protection is proposed to improve the corrosion fatigue resistance of AH 32 steel in seawater. By aid of corrosion fatigue tests, the effects of thermal spraying Zn (zinc) and Cr (chromium) coating…
This work aims at studying the creep behaviour of 15-15Ti(Si) austenitic steel, under uniaxial stress (range of 300-560 MPa), and its interaction with liquid lead. The steel was tested to verify its sensitivity to Liquid Metal…
The paper presents the stress distribution along the plate thickness in a bimetallic steel – titanium circular, axially symmetrical perforated plate produced in the technological process of explosion welding. The steel layer is the layer…
The modeling of the welding is desirable to guess the deformation of the components during manufacture, the position and the magnitude of maximum residual stresses and to envisage metallurgical effects in specific zones. The welding are…
In structural engineering, composite patch repairs are widely used to address cracked structures. However, their behavior under thermo-mechanical loading remains complex and less understood. This study examines the repair of a…
The structural integrity and reliability of glass components are key issues for concentrated solar power (CSP) systems. For example, the glass windows in a solar furnace may suffer catastrophic fracture due to thermal and structural…
During the last years many researchers put so much effort to design layered structures combining different materials in order to improve low fracture toughness and mechanical reliability of the ceramics. It has been proven, that an…
The work is devoted to experimental study of heat flow evolution at the fatigue crack tip during biaxial loading. The plane samples of titanium alloy Graid-2 with thick of 1 mm were weakened by notch to initiate fatigue crack at the center…
Radiation effects lead to significant reduction in ductility during the life of the components used in nuclear reactors. Sharp change in fracture toughness at lower temperature in Body Centered Cubic (BCC) materials as compared to Face…
In the last years, a large amount of fatigue test results from plain and bluntly notched specimens made of AISI 304L stainless steel were synthetized in a single scatter band by adopting the specific heat loss per cycle (Q) as a damage…
