Engineering components often contain notches, keyways or other stress concentration features. These features raise the stress state in the vicinity of their apex which can lead to unexpected failure of the component. The Theory of Critical…
In this paper the so-called Theory of Critical Distances is reformulated to make it suitable for estimating the strength of notched metals subjected to dynamic loading. The TCD takes as its starting point the assumption that engineering…
The infrared thermography is an attractive tool for studying the fatigue behavior of materials. Based on two theoretical models of fatigue damage indicators, this work studied the fatigue properties of the virgin Ti- 6Al-4V alloy.…
A generalized numerical model for predicting the structural integrity of self-anchored cable-stayed suspension bridges considering both geometric and material nonlinearities is proposed. The bridge is modeled by means of a 3D finite…
Finite Fracture Mechanics and Cohesive Crack Model can effectively predict the strength of plain, cracked or notched structural components, overcoming the classical drawbacks of Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics. Aim of the present work is…
The scatter degree of the fatigue samples is reduced when the nodal force based structural method is used for steel welded joints, while it is still high for aluminum alloy welded joints. Statistical method and rough set theory is used to…
The structural integrity and reliability of glass components are key issues for concentrated solar power (CSP) systems. For example, the glass windows in a solar furnace may suffer catastrophic fracture due to thermal and structural…
The paper focuses on the experimental and theoretical study of plastic deformation instability and localization in materials subjected to dynamic loading and high-velocity perforation. We investigate the behavior of samples dynamically…
In this study, a novel quasi-three dimensional hyperbolic high-order shear deformation theory (quasi-3D HHSDT) is developed for free vibration analysis of porous functionally graded plates (FGPs). There are six unknowns in the current…
Equivalent single layer theories for layered beams effectively and accurately predict global displacements and internal force and moment resultants using a limited number of displacement variables. However, they cannot reproduce local…
The so-called Complexity Sciences are a topic of fast growing interest inside the scientific community. Actually, researchers did not come to a definition of complexity, since it manifests itself in so many different ways [1]. This field…
Earthquake disasters have brought great harm to people's life safety and economic property. Its effect on fabric mainly focus on random effects currently, the general pseudo excitation method could solve the inefficiency calculation…
The aim of this work is the study of the effect of the finishing of the edge of glass when it has a structural function. Experimental investigations carried out for glass specimens are presented. Various series of annealed glass beam were…
A study on the accuracy of the approximation of the displacement field around of crack tip in a sample made from bridge steel (S355) is main objective of contribution. Linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) theory in framework of…
This work is dedicated to the numerical study of the influence of the parameters of statistical distribution of the structural elements’ ultimate strength on fracture processes of deformable bodies with stress concentrators. The loading…
The paper focuses on the effects of shear deformation and shear forces on the mode II contribution to the energy release rate in delaminated beams. A critical review of the relevant literature is presented, starting from the end-notched…
We propose the interpretation of the Finite Fracture Mechanics based on the criticality of damage-failure transition due to specific metastability of free energy release. Multiscale mechanisms of fatigue damage-failure transitions in…
Reinforced concrete structures may need repair in order to ensure the designed durability. Such necessity vary in cause and effect, but the structural diagnosis serves as the basis for adopting intervention measures. The assessment of the…
Three-point bending fatigue test of 5083 and 5A06 aluminum alloy T-welded joints is carried out, and the fatigue life of the specimens with different influencing factors are obtained. Finite element model of the T-welded joint is…
A study on the accuracy of the values of Williams’ expansion terms influenced by rounding numbers is presented. The results are presented taking into account a three-point bend single edge notched beam. Crack tip stress tensor components…
In this study, an efficient computational method for modeling the transition from transgranular to intergranular fracture mechanisms based on phase field fracture theory is discussed. Structural heterogeneity of the material is modeled on…
Fractographic assessment of fatigue fractures may be difficult if they occur in metallic components characterized by low ductility complex microstructures. In these cases reconciliation of known fatigue rupture mechanisms with…
The most important element of mathematical models of thermomechanical processing of metals and alloys is the constitutive model. In recent decades, multilevel physically-oriented constitutive models (CMs) have found widespread application.…
