The aim of the paper is to estimate a value of the critical applied stress for a crack initiation from a sharp V-notch tip. The classical approach of the linear elastic fracture mechanics (LELM) was generalized, because the stress…
The linear elastic analysis of homogeneous, isotropic cracked bodies is a Twentieth Century development. It was recognised that the crack tip stress field is a singularity, but it was not until the introduction of the essentially two…
The existence of two singularities related to the stress field at the crack tip and blow-up kinetics of damage localization is considered as the physical basis for the interpretation of the Theory of Critical Distances. The free energy…
The linear elastic analysis of cracked bodies is a Twentieth Century development, with the first papers appearing in 1907, but it was not until the introduction of the stress intensity factor concept in 1957 that widespread application to…
On the mode O existence in three-dimensional plates weakened by circular and elliptical holes under mode II loading It is known for long time that in a cracked plate subjected to anti-symmetric plane loading, the Poisson’s effect leads to…
A complete set of eigensolutions is constructed for different variants of circular conical bodies: homogeneous cone with one lateral surface (solid cone), homogeneous cone with two lateral surfaces (hollow cone) and composite cone for…
When the width of cracked nanocomponents made of brittle or quasi-brittle materials is less than approximately , the size of the - dominance zone becomes smaller than and comparable to the fracture process zone ( ). The fracture process…
The stress state of the elastic fixed semi-strip with the regarding of the singularities at its edge is investigated in the article. The initial boundary problem is reduced to a vector boundary problem in the transformation’s domain by the…
The existence of three-dimensional effects at cracks has been known for many years, but understanding has been limited, and for some situations still is. Understanding improved when the existence of corner point singularities and their…
Highly deformable materials (elastomers, gels, biological tissues, etc.) are ubiquitous in nature as well as in technology. The understanding of their flaw sensitivity is crucial to ensure a desired safety level. Fracture failure in soft…
In the present work, the stress intensity factor (SIF) of embedded small cracks placed at the weld toe is calculated by means of two procedures based on the Oore-Burns integral. In the first approach, the defect is considered as a circular…
We propose the interpretation of the Finite Fracture Mechanics based on the criticality of damage-failure transition due to specific metastability of free energy release. Multiscale mechanisms of fatigue damage-failure transitions in…
