The scaling of compression strength with porosity for aluminium foams was investigated. The Al 99.96, AlMg1Si0.6 and AlSi11Mg0.6 foams of various porosity, sample size with and without surface skin were tested in compression. It was…
The so-called Complexity Sciences are a topic of fast growing interest inside the scientific community. Actually, researchers did not come to a definition of complexity, since it manifests itself in so many different ways [1]. This field…
Reliable discrimination of small damage states under operational variability requires uncertainty aware Structural Health Monitoring. A pipeline is presented that couples guided wave physics with supervised machine learning to classify…
The study of fragmentation statistics of brittle materials that includes four types of experiments is presented. Data processing of the fragmentation of glass plates under quasi-static loading and the fragmentation of quartz cylindrical…
The criteria for optimizing shock-wave modes to increase the fatigue life of aircraft engine alloys are discussed with reference to laser shock peening (LSP). They are based on the self-similarity of plastic wave fronts and the kinetics of…
Concrete completely submerged in sulfate solutions has been used as the primary study subject for the durability of concrete subjected to sulfates. On the other hand, empirical data from the field indicates that concrete exposed to…
New conception of adiabatic shear bands (ASB) and adiabatic shear failure mechanisms are proposed as special type of critical phenomen, structural-scaling transition, in the ensembles of microshears, governed by the characteristic…
The role of structural mechanisms responsible for the consequent staging of damage-failure transition as the combination and continuity of ductile and creep kinetics of the structure evolution and the modeling in dwell fatigue regime.…
Characterizing fracture systems at various scales, modeling fracture distributions, and clarifying scale relations that correlate total fracture systems are of paramount importance in geology, mining, civil engineering, and petroleum…
