This study aims at providing a better understanding of the effects of both microstructure and defect on the high cycle fatigue behavior of metallic alloys using finite element simulations of polycrystalline aggregates. It is well known…
The simulation of critical and subcritical crack propagation in heterogeneous materials is not a simple problem in computational mechanics. These topics can be studied with different theoretical tools. In the crack propagation problem it…
The present paper describes a novel experimental technique recently presented that allows one to study interactions between the crack and microstructural barriers with an unprecedented level of ease and detail. The method consists in…
In this paper, a numerical home-made finite element model for the failure analysis of bolted joints between fiber-reinforced composite laminates is presented. The model is based on an incremental displacement based approach, it is hinged…
Materials can be classified as shear or tensile sensitive, depending on the main fatigue microcrack initiation process under multiaxial loadings. The nature of the initiating microcrack can be evaluated from a stress scale factor (SSF)…
The problem of constructing the multilevel physical model of inelastic deformation in steels allowing to take into consideration diffusionless solid-state phase (martensitic) transitions is considered. The model structure includes three…
Additive manufacturing is extensively used for the production of complex-shaped parts from metals and polymers. Because of the influence of various physical factors, the structure of materials processed under different processing…
Crack trajectories under different loading conditions and material microstructural features play animportant role when the conditions of crack initiation and crack growth under fatigue loading have to beevaluated. Unavoidable…
Gradient Elasticity (GE) allows the stress analysis to be performed by taking into account the size of the dominant source of microstructural heterogeneity via a suitable length scale parameter. This is done by simply assuming that the…
This article presents the bending fatigue behavior and the scatter-band analysis of aluminum alloys under beneficial conditions of nano-clay-particles and heat-treating, compared to detrimental conditions of the mechanical stress and the…
During manufacturing of parts from metals and alloys through forming and subsequent thermal and mechanical treatments the materials are often subjected to complex loading. In such cases materials significantly change their structure, which…
The article is devoted to the experimental study of the laws of inelastic deformation of structural polymer composites in the presence of macroinhomogeneous fields. The work uses a three-dimensional optical system and a method of digital…
The polypropylene random copolymer (PPR) is a thermoplastic material generally used for the transport of water under pressure, especially hot water. PPR pipes are exposed to severe conditions in terms of pressure and temperature, hence the…
