Static traction tests on material samples for mechanical constructions have pointed out the loss of linearity of the specimen surface temperature with the applied load. This phenomenon is due to the heat generation caused by the local…
Selecting the correct objective function is the critical precondition for a successful optimization task. The validity of this condition is also required when optimization algorithms are needed for the inverse identification of the unknown…
In this work, the Taguchi method is applied for the optimal choice of design parameter values for a polygonal shaft-hub coupling. The objective is to maximize a performance function, minimizing, at the same time, its sensitivity to noises…
Metaheuristic algorithms have known vast development in recent years. And their applicability in engineering projects is constantly growing; however, their deferent exploration and exploitation techniques cause the engineering problems to…
In this study, a new approach, for identification and characterization of straight cracks in plates-like structures, is presented. The finite element method using a commercial software (Abaqus)is coupled with successful history-based…
The structural health monitoring (SHM) approach plays a key role not only in structural engineering but also in other various engineering disciplines by evaluating the safety and performance monitoring of the structures. The structural…
In this paper, we present a scheme for cracks identification in three-dimensional linear elastic mechanical components. The scheme uses a boundary element method for solving the forward problem and the Nelder-Mead simplex numerical…
The objective of the study is to introduce an experimental uncertainty budget process for concrete compressive strength test, based on a protocol that incorporates effects of multiple factors significant for the measurement result.…
This work proposes a methodology to optimize a reinforced concrete structure. For this, the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) algorithm was used, an algorithm from the group of metaheuristic algorithms, which presents an easy…
The pipes, during their service, are subjected to accumulated loads such as internal pressure and that of the soil. The latter considerably accelerate their damage. In this work, the bending moment stress of API 5L X70 category steel…
The volume fraction effect of carbon fiber in an epoxy matrix in the vicinity of the notch on the traction and torsion behavior were studied. This volume fraction which increases with the reduction of the thickness is a parameter which…
In this article, the analytical solutions for static of bending analysis of functionally graded sandwich plates using four-variable high order shear-deformation theory is presented. During manufacture of these plates, defects such as…
This paper presents an advanced optimization methodology for truss structures, addressing both elasto-plastic design cases—where plastic deformations are controlled within predefined limits—and purely elastic scenarios, in which inelastic…
Research on determining the lifetime of an expansion bellows designed to compensate the difference in expansion between the shell and the tubes in a fixed tube sheet heat exchanger has never ceased because of its Importance in a heat…
Tibia is one of the bones that often fracture, generally occurring due to a car accident, falling from high places, work accidents, and sports injuries. Internal fixation is one of the solutions to repair broken bones. In some cases…
In this paper, a fatigue strength analysis approach based on Goodman-Smith fatigue limit diagram （GSFLD） and reliability theory is proposed to solve the problem that the traditional fatigue strength analysis of bogie frame is too…
Modality and intermittent search strategy in combination with an Improve Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (IPSO) to detect damage structure via using vibration analysis basic principle of a decline stiffness matrix a structure is…
This paper proposes an efficient methodology to monitor the formation of cracks in concrete after non-destructive ultrasonic testing of a structure. The objective is to be able to automatically detect the initiation of cracks early enough…
