The work reports the observed fatigue damage of C45 steel specimens tested in a previous work under multiaxial loading conditions and its relationship with the thermal energy dissipation which has been used in the last decades to estimate…
Weld start and end points are fatigue failure sensitive locations. Their fatigue behaviour especially in thin sheet structures under multiaxial load conditions is not sufficiently explored so far. Therefore, a research project was…
In many structures and components cracks, which are exposed to a 3D-mixed-mode-loading, occur due to multiaxial loading situation. A reliable evaluation of those components requires fracture mechanical criteria validated by experimental…
A series of strain-controlled multiaxial low cycle fatigue (LCF) tests under proportional and non-proportional loading conditions have been conducted on notched specimens. Cylindrical bars of Al 6061 aluminum alloy and AISI 316L stainless…
Experimental tests were conducted on additive manufactured Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy to investigate the mechanical and crack properties under multiaxial cyclic loading. Selective Laser Sintering technique (SLS) was employed to fabricate…
This study aims at providing a better understanding of the effects of both microstructure and defect on the high cycle fatigue behavior of metallic alloys using finite element simulations of polycrystalline aggregates. It is well known…
The three major issues which contribute to uncertainties in fatigue life estimations are the limited transferability of material data obtained in a laboratory for describing the fatigue behavior of components, the lack of damage…
The present paper investigates the multiaxial fatigue strength of sharp V-notched components made of titanium grade 5 alloy (Ti-6Al-4V). Axisymmetric notched specimens have been tested under combined tension and torsion fatigue loadings…
Models proposed to study the multiaxial fatigue damage phenomenon generally lack probabilistic interpretation due to their deterministic form. This implies failure compulsory happening at the plane exhibiting the maximum damage value…
The fatigue behaviour of circumferentially notched specimens made of titanium alloy, Ti-6Al-4V, has been analysed. To investigate the notch effect on the fatigue strength, pure bending, pure torsion and multiaxial bending-torsion fatigue…
Regarding the fatigue behaviour of EN AC-42000 T6 (A 356 T6), which is the most frequently used cast aluminium alloy for automotive safety components, especially under non-proportional constant and variable normal and shear stress…
The deformation behaviour and fracture mechanisms of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP) and polyamide 6 (PA 6) are investigated experimentally under different stress states and at different crosshead speeds of 1, 20 and…
Numerical simulation by plastic deformation of the shaping processes currently has a large industrial interest. It allows you to shorten the time of design and construction related products and tools to analyze and to optimize processes.…
This work is devoted to an experimental investigation of fatigue behavior of pultruded fiberglass tubes under uniaxial tension, compression and torsion. Static tests were carried out; a presence of postcritical deformation stage during…
This work presents an in-depth study of the low-cycle fatigue behaviour of ferritic-pearlitic HSLA-420 high-strength steel sheets, with emphasis on the influence of loading direction on fatigue life and damage mechanisms. Plastic…
Complex stresses, which occur on the mechanical surfaces of transport machinery in service, bring a drastic degradation in fatigue life. However, it is hard to reproduce such complex stress states for evaluating the fatigue life with…
Fatigue considerations often distinguish between fatigue crack nucleation and fatigue crack propagation. The current work presents a modeling approach utilizing one Fatigue Damage Indicator to treat both in a unified way. The approach is…
This paper reports results of fatigue tests of friction stir welded (FSW) aluminium tubes. Relatively small 38 mm diameter tubes were used and hence an automated FSW process using a retracting tool was designed for this project, as the…
This investigation revisits biaxial fatigue experiments carried out with the nickel-based superalloy termed Waspaloy. Recently, yield criteria extended to multiaxial fatigue and stress based approaches were analysed and their performance…
Cyclic stress-strain response and fatigue damage character has been investigated in austenitic stainless steel 316L. Hollow cylindrical specimens have been cyclically deformed in combined tension-compression and torsion under constant…
This paper discusses the phase shift effect occurring between two and more load channels of multiaxially loaded specimens. The discussion concludes that there is an extreme shortage of good experimental data that would prove the existence…
Fatigue damage and life assessment of multiaxial loadings is still an issue yet to resolve. Many methods have been proposed with promising agreements with the experimental results. However, the performance of such methods is, more than…
In this paper, a previously developed modification of the Sainz model of multiaxial fatigue is reduced to an invariant form. Model constants were determined for different sets of setup experiments. It was supposed to introduce an…
