Selected methods for calculating notch tip strains and stresses in elastic–plastic isotropic bodies subjected to multiaxial monotonic loading were compared. The methods use sets of equations where hypothetical notch tip elastic strains and…
Components and structures are designed based in their material’s mechanical properties such as Young's modulus or yield stress among others. Often those properties are obtained under monotonic mechanical tests but rarely under cyclic ones.…
In the present study, structural integrity of SA312 Type 304 LN steel welded pipes with through-wall crack under monotonic loading has been assessed using failure assessment diagram (FAD). Plastic capacity utilization and fracture capacity…
The characterization of ductile damage evolution, and its description, have been the object of extensive research in the continuum damage mechanic field. Many different models have been developed since the pioneering works carried out a…
In the present investigation in-plane anisotropy in tensile and ratcheting behavior of cold rolled and annealed commercially pure titanium plate has been studied. Flat tensile and fatigue test specimen oriented at 0, 45, and 90 degree to…
The theory of critical distances (TCD) has been applied to predict notch-based fracture and fatigue in a wide range of materials and components. The present paper describes a series of projects in which we applied this approach to human…
Experimental and numerical studies investigating fatigue crack growth were conducted on flat samples made of stainless steel AISE 304 and titanium alloy Grade 2. The heat flux from the crack tip caused by plastic deformation localization…
Results of a double-shear single-dowel wood connection tested under monotonic quasi-static compression loading are presented and discussed in this paper. The wood used in this study was a pine wood, namely the Pinus pinaster species, which…
The study explores the feasibility of a new all-steel buckling restrained brace (BRB) with the double pre-tensioning system as an alternative to conventional concentrically braced frames by using finite element method (ABAQUS program), And…
The present paper is devoted to an experimental study on the fracture behaviour of natural stones, commonly used as elements for building cladding, under both monotonic and cyclic loading, with particular emphasis to white Carrara marble.…
This paper presents a research about the monotonic and failure behaviours of bolted joints made of thin plates of S350GD and S355MC steels grades, which are used for rack structures. A full factorial test matrix was performed considering…
Low temperature fracture toughness and fracture energy are two important measures that could be used to investigate the impacts of using asphalt modifiers on the performance of asphalt pavements in cold regions. The aim of this research…
Series of geometrically similar concrete beam of small, medium and large beam sizes has been tested under the action of monotonic and fatigue loading. Digital image correlation technique has been utilized to understand the fracture…
This paper presents a case study on the behavior of precast reinforced columns with non-conventional cross-section. An experimental program was developed to verify the serviceability and ultimate limit states of these columns, loaded with…
Microstructural characteristics, monotonic and strain-controlled cyclic axial behaviors of AW2099-T83 Aluminum-Lithium alloy were investigated. Grain sizes and structures are not uniform in the different orientations studied. High strength…
The main purpose of this paper is to study the anisotropic behavior of laser welded interstitial free steel HC 260Y when it is subjected to monotonic tensile tests. The specimens were cut in different orientations according to the rolling…
Concrete corbels are short cantilever constructions that may lose their strength over time because of loads that happen over and over again. As an external bonding method for reinforcement, carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) strips are…
