A Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), in the course of a training flight, leaving the ground during the taxi to take off, went into an uncontrolled rolling to the right; consequently the helicopter gradually laid down on the right side. The…
This paper presents both mechanical and structural aspects of micro-cracking of CuNi2Si copper alloy in CNCS grade revealed during the static tensile test in the temperature range between 20ºC and 800ºC. The purpose of this paper is to…
During a ferry flight, in a standard operation condition and at cruising level, a military cargo experienced a double hydraulic system failure due to a structural damage of the dual booster actuator. The booster actuator is the main…
In order to predict the PCF (Peak Cutting Force) of conical pick in rock cutting process, a theoretical model is established based on elastic fracture mechanics theory. The vertical fracture model of rock cutting fragment is also…
The crack growth behavior in 2324-T39 aluminium alloy was experimentally investigated. Two types of crack branching were observed. The mechanism of an uncommon crack branching which results from the link up of secondary crack with the main…
In the last decades the modeling of masonry structures has become an argument particularly appealing for many researchers and a large variety of numerical techniques have been formulated with the aim to produce practical applications in…
The subject matter of these notes refers to the Ultimate Strength Design of 2-D steel framed structures and in particular to the analysis of the deformation state at collapse. The idea is based on the consideration that, if the structure…
The applicability of some numerical models for the prediction of the failure mechanism and of the bearing capacity of post-installed threaded rods chemically anchored in basalt, sandstone and limestone is investigated, as well as the…
The objective of the present paper is to clarify the effect of defect length in depth direction on rolling contact fatigue (RCF) crack propagation in high strength steel. RCF test and synchrotron radiation micro computed tomography (SR…
The analysis of the damaging micromechanisms in Ductile Cast Irons is often focused on ferritic matrix. Up to ten years ago, for this grades of DCIs, the main damaging micromechanism was identified with the graphite elements – ferritic…
Magnesium (Mg) alloys are attractive as structural materials due to their light weight and high specific strength. It is well known that Mg alloy has hexagonal close-packed (HCP) structure and only basal slip or twinning can operate during…
This study analyses the failure mechanisms of bilayer hybrid composites, consisting of carbon and glass fibres embedded in an epoxy matrix, under bending loads. The objective is to evaluate how different hybrid configurations influence…
Different structural and machine elements are used over the ages. These are subjected to various loads like static and dynamic load, temperature, corrosion etc. Due to the above-mentioned reasons, ageing of the structural elements occur.…
Among the most promising models introduced in recent years, with which it is possible to obtain very useful results for a better understanding of the physical phenomena involved in the macroscopic mechanism of crack propagation, the one…
A detailed investigation was conducted into the fracture mechanisms of cylindrical specimens made of a polycrystalline heat-resistant nickel-based alloy XH73MBTU-VD (EI698-VD), under uniaxial tension in the temperature range of 25–700°C.…
This study examines the influence of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on the mechanical properties of SiO2-loaded epoxy-polylactic acid (PLA) composites. Epoxy and PLA were mixed to form the matrix…
In this paper a macro-block model accounting for frictional resistances is presented to assess the lateral strength of a multi-storey masonry block wall. The kinematic approach of limit analysis is used to define the load factor causing…
Microstructural characteristics, monotonic and strain-controlled cyclic axial behaviors of AW2099-T83 Aluminum-Lithium alloy were investigated. Grain sizes and structures are not uniform in the different orientations studied. High strength…
The behavior of thermoplastics depends on several factors, mainly time and temperature. The present work is the subject of an analysis of the dependence of viscoelastic viscoplastic parameters of a model of rheological behavior at the…
This research addresses environmental concerns by exploring environmentally friendly composite materials as substitutes for non-biodegradable synthetic fibers. The study proposes the development of polymer matrix composites reinforced with…
Within the framework of limit design applied to masonry structures, this paper aims at analyzing the different behavior of a pavilion dome according to the adopted construction and reinforcement technologies. By using the static theorem…
Machining with a cutting edge with extensive damage or a fractured cutting edge significantly influences the machining performance. Therefore, investigations on tool wear behavior, their forms, and wear mechanisms will be very helpful in…
