This study is motivated from the collapse of an old masonry building in the Southern Italy. FEM analyses are carried out focusing on the influence of the contrasting wall on the stability of the vault. In the analyses, the structure is…
The seismic performance of a building hinges on the seismic capacity and damage features of the reinforced concrete (RC) frame with masonry infill walls. To reasonably evaluate the seismic performance and seismic economic loss of masonry…
In this work, the structural behavior of masonry buildings under flash flood actions is analyzed by using a novel 3D multilevel fluid/structure model. The proposed numerical framework consists of a macro-scale model based on the…
This paper aims to explore the dynamic behavior of a segmental masonry arch subjected to increasing horizontal displacements of one support. To this end, output-only dynamic identification techniques are first used to track the evolution…
A three-dimensional (3D) general upper-bound limit analysis procedure for the determination of the collapse load of out-of-plane loaded masonry walls with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) reinforcement strips is presented. The geometry of a…
Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) can be used for strengthening concrete or masonry constructions. One of the main problem in the use of FRP is the possible detachment of the reinforcement from the support material. This paper deals with the…
This article deals with an analysis of the behaviour of brick ceramic walls. The behaviour of the walls was analysed experimentally in order to obtain their bearing capacity under static loading and their seismic resistance.…
The evaluation of the seismic vulnerability of existing buildings is becoming very significant nowadays, especially for ancient masonry structures, that represent the cultural and historical heritage of our countries. In this research, the…
The dynamic behaviour and the seismic vulnerability of the ancient civic tower of Amatrice, dramatically damaged by the last shocks sequence of 2016 that occurred in Central Italy, have been studied in this paper by means of advanced 3D…
A prolonged seismic sequence struck the regions of Central Italy between August 2016 and January 2017, causing several fatalities and widespread damage to the built environment. The main objective of this work was to study the structural…
The evaluation of the seismic safety of ancient masonry buildings usually requires compounding the need of preservation of the historical values with the need of achieving a proper level of knowledge of the parameters influencing their…
