A numerical study of non-linear crack tip parameters

F.V. Antunes, R. Branco, L. Correia, AL Ramalho

Crack closure concept has been widely used to explain different issues of fatigue crack propagation. However, different authors have questioned the relevance of crack closure and have proposed alternative concepts. The main objective here…

Experimental investigation of effect of specimen thickness on fracture toughness of Al-TiC composites

M. S. Raviraj, C. M. Sharanaprabhu, G. C. Mohankumar

In this paper, the macro and micro-mechanical fracture behavior was studied for aluminum (Al6061) alloy matrix, reinforced with various proportions of TiC particles such as 3wt%, 5wt% and 7wt%. The Al6061-TiC metal matrix composites were…

Consecutive shock waves and fatigue loads: action invariants as optimization parameters under Laser Shock Pinning

Mikhail Bannikov, Oleg Naimark, Aleksandr Balakhnin, Vladimir Oborin, Sergey Uvarov, Aleksandra Yurina

The criteria for optimizing shock-wave modes to increase the fatigue life of aircraft engine alloys are discussed with reference to laser shock peening (LSP). They are based on the self-similarity of plastic wave fronts and the kinetics of…
