In this article we propose a new auxetic periodic lattice with negative Poisson's ratio which tends to the limit ?=-1 under particular conditions. We have studied its generation and kinematic, and we give a full description of the…
The possibility of obtaining band gap structures in chiral auxetic lattices is here considered and applied to the case of inertial locally resonant structures. These periodic materials are modelled as beam-lattices made up of a periodic…
The present work aims to model the fracture mechanical behavior of a high-strength low carbon steel, AISI 4130 operating in hydrogen contaminated environment. The study deals with the development of 2D finite element cohesive zone model…
The simulation of critical and subcritical crack propagation in heterogeneous materials is not a simple problem in computational mechanics. These topics can be studied with different theoretical tools. In the crack propagation problem it…
Transmission towers are tall structures used to support overhead power lines. They play an important role in the electrical grids. There are several types of transmission towers in which lattice towers are the most common type. Designing…
Additive manufacturing research is continuously growing, and this field requires a full improvement of the capability and reliability of the processes involved. Of particular interest is the study of complex geometries production, such as…
The present work investigates the compressive mechanical response of three lattice structures manufactured via VAT photopolymerization. A bio-inspired architecture, derived from the observation of Euplectella aspergillum, was compared with…
In this paper, a numerical tool able to solve fluid-structure interaction problems is proposed. The lattice Boltzmann method is used to compute fluid dynamics, while the corotational finite element formulation together with the Time…
The paper considers a pro-bionic lattice shell (PBLS) for civil aviation structures and the problem of getting the parameters of a local low-velocity impact taking the value of residual strain by fiber optic sensors (FOS) installed in…
Damage to tunnels caused by explosions may damage the support structure and the stability. This damage is due to either blasting the working face for drilling progress or an explosion inside the tunnel. The present study investigates the…
The paper focuses on the effective resistance and the near-threshold growth mechanisms in the ferritic-pearlitic and the pure pearlitic steel. The influence of microstructure on the shear-mode fatigue crack growth is divided here into two…
Enrico Mattei, the President of the Italian oil conglomerate, ENI, was about to land in Milan Linate Airport on October 27, 1962 when his airplane crashed on the ground due to a then unexplained accident. The investigation, reopened more…
Adopting novel sandwich structures with FRP (Fibre Reinforced Polymer) skins and a metallic lattice core, both of which have high specific strength and stiffness, is one way to achieve better mechanical performance while remaining…
The problem of constructing the multilevel physical model of inelastic deformation in steels allowing to take into consideration diffusionless solid-state phase (martensitic) transitions is considered. The model structure includes three…
Nano particulates fortified metal lattice composites are finding extensive variety of utilizations in car and sports hardware fabricating businesses. In the present investigation, an endeavor has been made to create copper-zinc-nano ZrO2…
Three key qualities should define the structures used in the aviation industry: they should be light, rigid, and strong. These goals can be met by selecting lightweight, high-performance materials like titanium alloy or composites, but…
This paper is concerned with investigating of the plastic behaviour on gap K-joints of truss girders, made from thin-walled rectangular hollow section members. An experimental study was carried out on a full-scale girder under a…
